Key Responsibilities
  1. Reporting directly to the Divisional Merchandise Manager, the goal of the Buyer is to deliver the planned return on investment for the Merchandise Division.
  2. Operate within merchandise plan objectives regarding mark-ups, mark-downs, margins, and inventory turns.
  3. Develop departmental strategy and plans in conjunction with the Planner on a quarterly planning calendar.
  4. Review and revise department/class plans on a monthly basis and work with the Planner to implement any revisions.
  5. Develop store strategies in conjunction with the Planner regarding product mixes, delivery timing, fixture rollouts, and special events.
  6. Interpret and analyze statistical reports to maximize trending business and minimize down-trending business.
  7. Search and negotiate the best deal and value in the marketplace to ensure that we are priced below competition.
  8. Pursue new vendors, concepts, items, and trends to set us apart from the competition.
  9. Manage the flow of merchandise to maximize merchandise turnover.
  10. Take on additional duties as needed.
Requirements
  • College degree in a business-related field
  • 3 plus years of experience in a retail industry buying position
  • Mens buying experience is required
  • Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Computer literate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
