Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at ZipRecruiter. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of laboratory testing personnel, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures, and maintaining accurate attendance records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Laboratory Testing Personnel: Provide guidance and support to laboratory testing personnel to ensure they are meeting the required standards and expectations.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure that all laboratory personnel are aware of and comply with all policies, procedures, and standards as promulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.
  • Maintain Attendance Records: Keep accurate attendance records for all laboratory personnel and maintain time and attendance records for the department.
  • Assist with Budget Management: Assist the Director/Manager in maintaining the Laboratory budget, including monthly analysis and variance reporting on expense detail.
  • Develop and Implement Quality Control Programs: Develop, implement, and maintain current procedural manuals of all tests performed in the section(s) assigned and update and review manuals biennially or more often as necessary.
  • Enforce Safety Policies: Enforce all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all laboratory personnel.
  • Research and Implement New Procedures: Research, evaluate, and implement new and improved procedures, methodologies, instrumentation, and techniques as assigned by the Director/Manager or Supervisor.
  • Monitor Test Analyses: Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Train New Personnel: Train new laboratory personnel in the assigned section(s) procedures and policies and provide subsequent training in all new or revised procedures and techniques for assigned shift(s) or provide remedial training as necessary.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement Activities: Participate in proficiency testing surveys, review and evaluate results, and maintain copies of survey records in section(s).
  • Coordinate Meetings: Coordinate and attend meetings as required to discuss changes and developments regarding policies, equipment, procedures, staffing, etc.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from a regionally accredited college/university or education that has been evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency and deemed equivalent to a US Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician required. Five (5) years of full-time primary experience in the specific section of responsibility required.
  • Certifications: Must provide proof of certification or certification eligibility for MT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), CLS (NCA/ASCP), or MT (AAB).
