Key Responsibilities of the Surgical Oncologist:

  • Engaging with patients to clarify their cancer diagnosis and staging, discussing available treatment alternatives, and aiding in the management of treatment-related side effects and symptoms.
  • Leading a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals dedicated to cancer care.
  • Developing and coordinating comprehensive treatment strategies, including the prescription of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
  • Administering radiation therapy to patients as part of their treatment regimen.
  • Providing support for pain management to enhance patient comfort.
  • Conducting surgical procedures to excise tumors and assess the extent of cancer spread.
  • Performing essential administrative duties, such as maintaining accurate records of test results, writing prescriptions, delivering cancer-related information to patients, and overseeing treatment protocols.

Qualifications for the Surgical Oncologist:

  • A medical degree specializing in oncology, complemented by successful completion of residency and fellowship training in the field.
  • Possession of a valid state license and board certification in oncology practice.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach when interacting with patients.
  • A comprehensive and current understanding of various cancers and their treatment methodologies.
  • Proficiency in operating medical instruments and technologies pertinent to cancer treatment.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership capabilities.
