We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as Senior Leader for Teaching and Learning Strategy. As a member of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will play a critical role in shaping the academic direction of our secondary phase.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading and managing departments, with a proven track record of improving teaching and learning outcomes. You will be responsible for working closely with the Vice Principal for Staff Professional Development to develop and implement a comprehensive teaching and learning strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Departmental Leadership: Line manage the Heads of Department for English, Mathematics, and Science, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Strategy Development: Work with the Vice Principal for Staff Professional Development to develop and implement a teaching and learning strategy that drives student achievement and engagement.
  • CPD Programmes: Design and deliver comprehensive CPD programmes that meet the needs of all teachers, including newly appointed and early career teachers.
  • Lesson Observations: Conduct regular lesson observations to monitor and enhance teaching standards, providing feedback and coaching to support staff development.
  • Curriculum Review: Review and refine our curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of all learners, aligning with best practices and national guidelines.

Staff Professional Development & Mentorship:

  • Mentorship Programme: Develop and lead a mentorship programme that supports newly appointed and early career teachers, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
  • Peer Observation: Facilitate peer observation and best practice sharing, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the school.
  • Action Research: Support action research projects that drive improvements in teaching and learning, ensuring that best practices are identified and implemented school-wide.
  • Coaching Sessions: Deliver coaching sessions to support teachers in developing their skills and knowledge, ensuring they have the tools needed to succeed.

Data-Driven Improvement & Quality Assurance:

  • Assessment Data Analysis: Analyse assessment data and student performance metrics to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in teaching practices.
  • Intervention Strategies: Collaborate with the Heads of Department to develop data-informed intervention strategies that enhance student achievement.
  • Reporting and Updates: Provide regular reports and updates to SLT, informing decision-making on teaching and learning priorities.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the effective use of formative and summative assessments to track and support student progress.

Curriculum & Pedagogical Innovation:

  • Curriculum Review: Review and refine our curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of all learners, aligning with best practices and national guidelines.
  • Cross-Curricular Collaboration: Champion cross-curricular collaboration and innovative approaches to STEM, literacy, and numeracy development.
  • Technology Integration: Promote the effective use of technology to enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Community Outreach: Engage with parents and the wider school community to foster a shared commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Parent-Teacher Engagement: Lead or contribute to parent workshops and teacher-parent engagement sessions to support student learning at home.

Professional Growth:

  • Research and Development: Stay up to date with current research and developments in teaching and learning.
  • Leadership Training: Participate in external training, networking events, and leadership programs to continually refine expertise.
  • Growth Mindset: Model a growth mindset and commitment to lifelong learning within the school community.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to whole-school strategic planning and decision-making as part of the SLT.
  • School Preparation: Support the school in preparation for inspections and external reviews, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Additional Duties: Take on additional duties as required to support the overall mission and vision of the school.
