Job Description

Teaching & Learning is a key senior leadership role responsible for driving high-quality teaching and learning across the secondary phase. The post holder will line manage the Heads of Department for English, Mathematics, and Science, ensuring consistency in pedagogy, curriculum delivery, and student outcomes. They will also work closely with the Vice Principal for Staff Professional Development, ensuring a strategic and impactful approach to teacher training and growth.

Key Responsibilities:Teaching & Learning Leadership:
  1. Lead the development and implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies across the secondary phase.
  2. Work collaboratively with Heads of English, Mathematics, and Science to ensure high standards of teaching, assessment, and student progress.
  3. Oversee lesson planning, differentiation, and instructional best practices, ensuring a consistent and high-quality student learning experience.
  4. Conduct learning walks, lesson observations, and coaching sessions to monitor and enhance teaching standards.
  5. Implement and embed evidence-based teaching methodologies that improve student engagement and attainment.
Staff Professional Development & Mentorship:
  1. Work alongside the Vice Principal for Staff Professional Development to design and implement a comprehensive CPD program.
  2. Lead training workshops and coaching programs, ensuring that all teachers receive targeted, high-impact professional development.
  3. Support newly appointed and early career teachers through structured induction, mentoring, and coaching programs.
  4. Facilitate peer observation, best practice sharing, and action research projects to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Data-Driven Improvement & Quality Assurance:
  1. Use assessment data and student performance metrics to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in teaching practices.
  2. Collaborate with the Heads of Department to implement data-informed intervention strategies that enhance student achievement.
  3. Ensure the effective use of formative and summative assessments to track and support student progress.
  4. Provide regular reports and updates to SLT, informing decision-making on teaching and learning priorities.
Curriculum & Pedagogical Innovation:
  1. Ensure that the curriculum delivery aligns with best practices and meets the needs of all learners.
  2. Champion cross-curricular collaboration and innovative approaches to STEM, literacy, and numeracy development.
  3. Promote the effective use of technology to enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  1. Engage with parents and the wider school community to foster a shared commitment to teaching excellence.
  2. Lead or contribute to parent workshops and teacher-parent engagement sessions to support student learning at home.
Professional Growth:
  1. Stay up to date with current research and developments in teaching and learning.
  2. Participate in external training, networking events, and leadership programs to continually refine expertise.
  3. Model a growth mindset and commitment to lifelong learning within the school community.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to whole-school strategic planning and decision-making as part of the SLT.
  2. Support the school in preparation for inspections and external reviews, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning.
  3. Take on additional duties as required to support the overall mission and vision of the school.
