Job Overview:

The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer plays a vital role in the effectiveness of their team and related teams. They spearhead the exchange of ideas and information relating to Civil/Structural Design, ensuring efficient collaboration and achieving project goals.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • A minimum of 15 years of offshore structure experience is required.
  • E3D & S3D expertise is mandatory.
  • Candidates should hold a high school diploma in Civil or Structural disciplines or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience with a major contractor or consultant, including 5+ years of experience in oil and gas, is necessary.
  • Detailed knowledge of associated industry detailing standards & codes is essential.
  • Candidates should be proficient in 3D and 2D drafting and material control systems (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
  • A minimum of 2 projects working and/or review experience in E3D and/or S3D are required.
  • Candidates must be capable of leading projects.
  • They should be able to perform the engineering of Miscellaneous steel.
  • Candidates will participate in proposals as an expert for CSA design work.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer prepares and develops arrangement and detail conceptual, FEED, studies, and detail design drawings of high technical quality and professional consistent presentation.
  • They develop 3D models and ensure clash-free models with all other disciplines.
  • Design deliverables must be completed and issued per project specifications, MDR, and project Level 2 & 3 procedures, and within agreed schedules and budgets.
  • Candidates apply knowledge and/or skills to a range of activities.
  • They set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and forecast and plan resource requirements.
  • Acting as a coordinator and technical expert, they contribute to the process of development and/or modification of 3D Macros applied at E3D/S3D.
  • When acting as Lead Designer, in addition:
    • They direct and coordinate medium or large Design teams as Lead Designer.
    • Lead projects as Lead Designer, engaging the participation of other disciplines.
    • Coordinate all activities within own discipline and discipline interfaces with other disciplines.
    • Lead the design team of the assigned work area and complete within the planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, MDR, and project-specific procedures, to a high professional standard.
    • Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project, including scope, deliverables, schedule, and all Discipline workforce resources.
    • Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified.
    • Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action.
    • Act as project-based Discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with the Project Team, Customer, vendor/supplier, and relevant agencies such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc.
  • Become fully familiar with Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address them.
  • Prepare Civil and Structural layouts from data generated by others in close liaison with Civil and Structural Engineers and counterparts from other disciplines.
  • Assist Lead Engineer/Designer in raising technical queries, preparing estimates and job scope changes.
  • Attend (As Lead Designer) project Kickoff and Review meetings, Vendor meetings.
  • Monitor and coordinate the design team remotely if required and Lead a project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX).
  • Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with a particular focus on Health and Safety Policies.
  • Develop 3D Models and ensure clash free models in coordination with all other disciplines' requirements.
  • Organize design work, including setting up 3D and 2D systems.
  • Supervise Designers and Associate Designers.
  • Execute relevant administration and filing.
  • Check designs, with particular emphasis on interfaces with other disciplines.
  • Check designs for operational requirements, constructability, maintainability, and HSE aspects.
  • Provide drafting support as required.
  • Review other discipline drawings.
  • Review supplier drawings.
  • Be able to perform the engineering of Miscellaneous steel.
  • Participate in proposals as an expert for CSA design work.

Project: Lead Designer, Lead Engineer, Project Engineering Manager
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: Lead Designers, Engineers, all other Engineering and Design disciplines assigned to the project, Project Engineer, Material Control Team, Document Control, and Customer representatives
Supervises: Design team assigned to a project or part of the project during the detailing and production phases
