The Aviation Systems Modeler will be responsible for developing and validating simulation models for UAVs, including fixed-wing and multicopters. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of dynamic system modeling and simulation tools, particularly those related to aircraft systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate UAV simulation models, including aerodynamics, propulsion, systems, and environment.
- Evaluate aircraft behavior in static and dynamic simulations, verifying requirements and aircraft robustness.
- Improve simulation and model validation automation.
- Support conceptual and preliminary design for flying qualities perspective, such as stability and controllability requirements.
- Propose UAV flight test points to evaluate flying qualities and control law. Analyze flight test data to find aircraft problems and improvements.
- Correct modeling database based on flight test results.
- Take ownership of tasks while adhering to deadlines and budgets.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in flying qualities or aircraft modeling and simulation (preference for 10+ years).
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink. Python programming is a plus.
- System Modeling: Strong understanding of dynamic system modeling and simulation tools, especially aircraft-related systems.
- Aerodynamics: Able to understand and critically evaluate aerodynamic coefficients from wind tunnel and CFD analysis, implement and validate them in the flying qualities model.
- Aircraft Design Phases: Familiarity with Aircraft Design Phases (conceptual, preliminary, and detail).
- Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex aerodynamic issues.
- Team Player: Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
