Job Description

United Arab Emirates University is a leading institution in the region, and we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Head of the National Medical Library Section. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the library's strategic direction and ensuring that it remains a vital resource for the university community.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the National Medical Library Section, aligning with the university's overall goals and objectives.
  2. Leadership and Management: Provide visionary leadership and management to the library team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
  3. Collection Development: Oversee the development and maintenance of the library's collection, ensuring that it meets the needs of students, researchers, and faculty members.
  4. Research and Reference Services: Provide expert research and reference services to support the academic and research needs of the university community.
  5. Staff Management: Supervise and develop the skills of library staff, ensuring that they are equipped to provide high-quality services to users.
  6. Communication and Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including faculty members, researchers, and other library staff, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  7. Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement performance metrics to monitor and evaluate the library's services and collections, making recommendations for improvement.
  8. Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in library and information science, applying this knowledge to improve library services and collections.
Requirements
  • MLS or Equivalent: Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a library environment, preferably in a research-intensive institution.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training and Development: Participation in training programs related to medical information resources, scholarly communication, and information literacy teaching.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and Arabic, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
