Job Summary

Wood is seeking a highly experienced Lead Instrumentation Engineer to join our team in Abu Dhabi. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and engineering of Instrument and Controls Systems for our clients in the oil and gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the development of Instrument and Controls Systems design and engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
  2. Define the overall controls architecture for our clients' projects.
  3. Coordinate with the I&C team and report to the Project or Engineering Manager on project-related matters.
  4. Support the planning, scheduling, and execution of discipline activities and deliverables, including manhour estimating and schedule preparation.
  5. Manage the I&C schedule and planning, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  6. Supervise discipline personnel on the project, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support.
  7. Manage and report progress of all I&C engineering and design budgets, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  8. Identify areas of concern with respect to progress and/or quality, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  9. Attend weekly internal and external progress meetings, generating status reports for the Engineering/Project Manager.
  10. Ensure all team members are competency assessed and maintain the competency of the team in line with company and client requirements.
  11. Define minimum acceptance criteria and undertake pre-qualification of third parties.
  12. Liaise and engage with licensors, equipment vendors, and OEMs as required to conclude project deliverables.
  13. Define scope of work for 3rd Party subcontracts as required.
  14. Prepare tender bid evaluations and assess bids.
  15. Review vendor documents on detailed engineering projects.
  16. Provide input to EPC scope of work and EPC tender package for execute stage.
  17. Coordinate with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up to ensure no conflict within the overall engineering design.
  18. Provide technical support to site in terms of material inspection, factory acceptance testing, etc.
  19. Ensure compliance with management of change processes both technical and financial.
  20. Provide direction and guidance on technical queries relating to I&C engineering and raise appropriate EQs/deviations.
  21. Participate in all project safety and design reviews as necessary.
  22. Ensure all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project schedule.
  23. Liaise with the client's engineering, operations, and maintenance staff as required to ensure a consistent approach to project completion.
  24. Take ownership for risk identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, and close-out for your respective discipline.
  25. Promote safe behavior at all times.
  26. Provide sound technical advice and solutions to a diversity of technical problems within the discipline.
  27. Promote and encourage smarter ways of working and champion continuous improvement within your department.
  28. Ensure all lessons learnt are captured and shared.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (Instrumentation or Electronics) from an accredited university with a minimum of fifteen (15+) years of relevant experience in the Offshore/Onshore Oil & Gas industry, including minimum (5) years (preferred) in GCC region.
  2. Must have at least five (5) years of experience in similar position in a mega Oil & Gas or Petrochemical projects, managing team of Specialists, Senior Engineers, and Engineers.
  3. Offshore experience is a must, whilst ADNOC experience is desired.
  4. Experience in FEED, Detail design, and EPC projects.
  5. Fully coherent in all international codes and standards.
  6. Excellent command of both spoken and written English is required.
  7. Assurance of tender and supply for all I&C equipment.
  8. Thorough knowledge of DCS, ESD, F&G, and SCADA systems generally incorporated in major Brownfield oil/gas offshore projects.
  9. Participation with contribution during P&IDs, HAZOP, and SIL reviews workshop Review and where required approval of work by others.
  10. Previous experience of working in the Middle East would be an advantage.
