The Sheikh Zayed Academy for Boys is looking to appoint a appoint a highly inspirational, motivated, experienced, and dynamic Head of English to lead teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum across the English Department from August 2024. Exceptional CPD opportunities are available to all teachers including the NPQML, NPQSL and NPQH.

Position Summary:
**Leadership, Management and Culture**
- Create an environment of determination and a relentless pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the department.
- Be highly visible throughout the school and phase; walking corridors and leading by example.
- Line manage members of staff in accordance with the department organization chart.

**Student Achievement**
- Maximize the progress and attainment of students within the department in line with appraisal and whole school targets.
- Seek to achieve excellent student achievement for the department in both internal and external assessments.

**Curriculum**
- Ensure that a high quality, knowledge rich, curriculum is in place for all Grade levels aligned Massachusetts State published standards.

**Assessment**
- Assess students in line with the designed curriculum and Massachusetts State published standards.
- Monitor, evaluate and review the academic results on a student and question level produced through internal and external assessment in line with SZPAB expectations.
- Oversee the intervention and support strategies across the department to maximize the progress and attainment within the department.
- Ensure that reporting across the department is within deadlines and in accordance with school policy and practice and that parent communication reports are written to high professional standards.
- Ensure homework is set and accurate records maintained.

**Teaching and Learning**
- Ensure SZPAB Teaching and Learning Principles are embedded and enhanced across the department in line with the Department Improvement Plan (DIP).
- Ensure marking of books across the department is in line with whole phase expectations.
- Monitor, evaluate, review and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
- Develop the Language for Learning and EAL development across the department using the SIOP protocols.
- Create a department environment which stimulates learning and displays relevant and current student work.
- Where appropriate, ensure the deployment of Learning Assistants and measure the effectiveness of their work by way of impact on student progress.

**Requirements**:

- PGCE or equivalent qualification in Education
- A minimum of 5 years' experience
- A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check
