Commis 1 Chef

The Commis is responsible for preparing food, helping the kitchen workers in the preparation of food items, and setting up allocated stations for the menu, as instructed by Chef and compliant with Food Safety standards.
- Produce and maintain the highest food quality for all food products served in all areas.
- Prepare the daily mise-en-place and food production in different sections of the kitchen as needed
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes within the cold kitchen section such as salads, cold cuts, salad dressings etc.
- Notify the Chef in advance of likely shortages.
- Serve menu items compliant with established standards.
- Set up stations and collect all necessary supplies to prepare menu for service
- Arrange sauces and supplementary garnishes for the allocated station.
- Cover, date and correctly store all bits and pieces and food prep items.
- Constantly thrive to upgrade the food quality and presentation and establish the necessary controls that would assure a high level of quality and consistency.
- Taste all foods daily and make necessary changes. Food needs to be ready to be served 15 minutes before opening time.
- Use food preparation tools in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
- Close the kitchen correctly and follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations.
- Assist with all duties as assigned by the Chef de Partie / Sous Chef / Head Chef.
- Maintain a prepared and sanitary work area at all times, and understand and abide by the Health and Safety standards.
- Keep the work area fresh all through the shift
- Make sure all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately.
- Constantly use safe and hygienic food handling practices.
- Return dirty food preparation utensils to the appropriate areas
**Qualifications**:
- At least a high school diploma and/or equivalent experience.
- Preferably with Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major.
- Having a minimum of 2 years of previous experience in the culinary industry
- In-depth knowledge/expertise of the culinary industry
- Experience in a restaurant is required
- Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, honesty and ethics;
- Self-starter, flexible, and able to work independently
- Ability to multi-task, and change priorities constantly as needed in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends, days, afternoons and evenings.
- Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.
- Knowledge of food handling and sanitation standards is required.
