Job Title : Garden Laborer (Nursery)

Job Summary:
Garden Laborers in a nursery environment are responsible for assisting with the care, maintenance, and cultivation of plants, trees, and shrubs. They work under the supervision of nursery managers or experienced horticulturists to ensure the health and quality of nursery stock. This role involves a combination of physical labor, plant care tasks, and customer service duties.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the planting, potting, and transplanting of nursery stock, including trees, shrubs, flowers, and ornamental plants. Ensure proper spacing, depth, and soil conditions for optimal growth.
- Prune and shape plants to promote healthy growth and aesthetic appeal. Remove dead or diseased branches, flowers, or foliage. Clean and maintain nursery facilities, including greenhouse structures, pathways, and equipment.
- Assist with the propagation of plants through techniques such as seed sowing, cutting, grafting, and division. Prepare propagation materials, including soil mixes, pots, trays, and rooting hormones.
- Provide assistance and information to customers shopping for plants at the nursery. Answer questions about plant care, suitability for specific growing conditions, and landscaping ideas. Assist with loading plants into customer vehicles as needed.
- Assist with inventory control activities, including receiving shipments, tagging plants, and organizing stock according to size, species, and other criteria. Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
- Perform various general labor tasks as assigned, including lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects such as bags of soil, pots, and plant containers. Assist with loading and unloading delivery trucks. Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working in a nursery, garden center, or landscaping environment preferred.
- Basic knowledge of plant care techniques, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, and pest control.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in outdoor conditions.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact positively with customers and coworkers
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from supervisory staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

**Working Conditions**:
Garden laborers in a nursery typically work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind. The work may involve bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying heavy objects. They may also be exposed to soil, dust, pollen, and plant allergens. The hours can vary depending on seasonal demand, with longer hours often required during peak planting and selling seasons.
