A **Crane/Forklift Operator** is responsible for operating cranes or forklifts to move, lift, load, and unload materials and products safely and efficiently in various work environments, such as construction sites, warehouses, factories, or shipping docks. These operators must have specialized knowledge of crane and forklift operation, safety regulations, and maintenance procedures.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- **Operate Crane and Forklift Equipment**:

- Safely operate cranes (e.g., tower cranes, mobile cranes) or forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach trucks) to move materials, equipment, and products as needed.
- Load and unload trucks, containers, and storage areas.
- Use lifting equipment to transport large or heavy objects, ensuring safe and precise placement.
- **Pre-Operation Inspections**:

- Perform routine inspections of cranes or forklifts before operation, checking mechanical components, fuel levels, and safety systems.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working condition and report any defects or issues to supervisors or maintenance teams.
- **Load and Unload Materials**:

- Move materials to specified locations within the job site, warehouse, or storage areas, ensuring proper handling to avoid damage.
- Use the crane or forklift to stack, position, or arrange items safely in designated areas, paying attention to weight limits and balance.
- **Safety Compliance**:

- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate cranes or forklifts within safe operating limits and according to manufacturer's specifications and industry regulations.
- Ensure that the load is properly secured and balanced before lifting to prevent accidents.
- **Coordinate with Team Members**:

- Communicate with supervisors, ground crew, or other operators to ensure safe and efficient movement of materials.
- Signal workers or crane spotters for coordination and guidance when moving heavy loads.
- **Adhere to Regulations and Safety Procedures**:

- Comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety guidelines and any other relevant standards.
- Maintain clear communication with team members to ensure the safe operation of lifting equipment.
- **Perform Minor Equipment Maintenance**:

- Conduct basic maintenance and cleaning of cranes or forklifts to ensure operational efficiency.
- Report mechanical problems, wear and tear, or any issues that could affect equipment performance.
- **Log Equipment Use and Maintenance**:

- Maintain accurate records of crane or forklift operation, hours worked, load capacity used, and any maintenance performed.
- Record any incidents, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions and report them to management.
- **Site Clean-Up**:

- After completing tasks, ensure the work area is left clean and free of any debris or hazards.
- Secure and store equipment properly when not in use.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- **Experience**:

- Previous experience operating cranes or forklifts in a construction, warehouse, shipping, or industrial setting.
- Ability to maneuver equipment in tight or restricted spaces.
- Experience in handling different types of loads and materials.
- **Licensing and Certifications**:

- Valid crane or forklift operator certification from a recognized authority (e.g., OSHA, NCCCO, or manufacturer-specific certification).
- Some positions may require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) depending on the work environment or material transport requirements.
- **Physical Requirements**:

- Ability to operate equipment for long periods, sometimes in challenging outdoor conditions or confined spaces.
- Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance and checks on equipment.
- Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to concentrate for extended periods.
- **Skills**:

- Strong understanding of load limits, rigging, and proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to follow precise instructions and safety protocols.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment troubleshooting.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members.
