For UAE and Bahrain Reinsurance related activities, the role is responsible for:

  • Assessment of UAE & Bahrain reinsurance needs and treaty scheme effectiveness leading to definition of best renewal proposal options.
  • Coordination for Data Pack Preparation and Presentation for Treaty renewals.
  • Preparation/Verification of Reinsurance Documents, Treaties, Cover Notes, etc.
  • Ensuring timely payment of Reinsurance Minimum Deposit Premium instalments including payments to facultative reinsurers, coordination with the finance team of Liva and RI/RI broker.
  • Support to Underwriting, Claims & Risk departments over any Reinsurance related queries.
  • Follow up for Special Acceptance requests from Underwriters with Treaty Leader.
  • Reinsurers and Reinsurance Brokers Communication. Respond to Reinsurance Queries, follow up and obtain Confirmations, settlements etc.
  • Reinsurance Claims Management. Ensure submission of Claims loss advises, arrange for Cash calls, follow up and settlement of Reinsurance claims.
  • Supervision over Facultative Reinsurance cessions throughout (understanding technical reasoning, placement verification, correctness of the facultative register, system inputs, premium payment, claim recovery).
  • Ensure Compliance with Reinsurance Management Strategy & Procedures.
  • Proactive contribution to Group Reinsurance Technical governance revision and update always leveraging on simplicity, effectiveness, adequate controls.
  • Reinsurers and Reinsurance Brokers Onboarding/Deleting Process, including TOBA related communication and coordination with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Configuration of Reinsurance rates, limits, terms and conditions in the respective software/application/system.
  • Support Reinsurance System review and required upgrading.
  • Acting as the pivot for external and internal audit of the Reinsurance department.
  • Generation, Preparation & Analysis of various Registers and both routine and ad-hoc reports pertaining to Reinsurance.
  • PNOCs/Inter office Memo for Treaty support/Reinsurance Annual rating exercise.
  • UAE & Bahrain Regulatory compliance & Returns related to Reinsurance.
  • Preparation of presentation on Reinsurance support for annual rating agency exercise.
  • Follow the CASSOFF / Similar Process for Treaty sign off with various departments.
  • Coordination with Technical Accounting Team for Preparation and Submission of Reinsurance Bordereau's for all lines of business (Life, Medical & General) within the timeline.
  • Reconciliation of Transactions and Bordereaux balances with Finance Department before submission.
  • Quarterly Reinsurers Data submission for VAT return filing for UAE/Oman.

For Group Reinsurance placement related activities, the role is also and mainly responsible for:

  • Acting as the main entry point in the organization for Reinsurers and Reinsurance brokers keeping the business relationship always at the utmost professional level.
  • Exploring and being up to date with international reinsurance landscape, trends, opportunities, and risks to keep and reshape our reinsurance protection always optimal and fit for purpose.
  • Support the Group Head of Reinsurance and being proactive in the restructuring of the reinsurance program adapting it to our Group's evolving exposure coverage level and seeking for optimal reinsurance solution for the mitigation of P&L volatility with a technical value creation approach.
  • Support the Technical/Underwriting Teams to place or elaborate on specific reinsurance needs supporting portfolio growth, insurance cover innovation, know-how requirement, etc. whether through specific ad-hoc facultative, facility (fac-obb and the like), new or enhanced treaty placement.
  • Manage, negotiate and execute the placement of the chosen Treaties or Reinsurance Facilities Renewal structure seeking for optimal cover at best achievable economical price always in alignment with Top Management and Group Board approved Reinsurance strategy and Governance Framework.
  • Seek for, establish and improve a strong and sustainable long-term reinsurance panel with the most solid reinsurance counterparties.
  • Involvement and support in other activities at Group Reinsurance level is possible if and when required.
  • Ability to read, analyse, and interpret policy / treaty / reinsurance documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from reinsurers, regulatory agencies, management or staff from other departments.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management and reinsurers.
  • Ability to effectively restructure reinsurance program seeking for best reinsurance efficiency and underlying book of business protection, stability and profitable growth.
  • Knowledge of International Reinsurance Markets & Practices and established professional network spreading across main international reinsurance hubs (Continental Europe, Lloyd's, etc.)
  • Understanding of Accumulation and Exposure Management activities (Cat Modelling, Risk Accumulation, etc).
  • Experience in technical governance development (reinsurance framework, policies, guidelines, criteria).
  • Spirit of innovation, simplification and effective change of Reinsurance strategy/processes/technical capabilities and potentially enhancement of fellow Reinsurance colleagues on best practices and technical topics.
  • Successful negotiation abilities and attitude.
  • Good Analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork spirit.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills towards internal and external stakeholders like brokers or clients.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

Academic / Professional Qualification:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree preferably in Insurance and Risk Management, Actuarial, Engineering, Law, Economics.

Requisite Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as Reinsurance Buyer, Structurer, Broker or Underwriter preferably in a global/multinational insurance or reinsurance groups. (especially in Commercial lines)
  • Additional experience in Insurance underwriting (especially in Commercial lines underwriting) is a strong plus.
