Genetic Counsellor

One of the leading pediatrics /childrens hospitals is currently looking for a genetic counselor atthe UAE location.

The GeneticCouncellow will provide specialized counseling education andsupport to patients and families navigating genetic diagnoses andtesting. Collaborating with clinical teams and genomic laboratoriesthe role ensures accurate test selection results communication andpatientcentered care.

TheGenetic Counsellor also develops educational programs and materialsmentors team members and contributes to research and qualityimprovementinitiatives.

KeyResponsibilities

1.ClinicalPractice

• Providegenetic counseling to patients and families regarding diagnoses andtesting.
  
• Interpret family historyclinical and genetic findings to assess patientrisks.
  
• Educate patients and familiestailoring plans to their uniqueneeds.
  
• Coordinate specialty clinicsschedules and appointments.
  
• Serve asa liaison between the clinical team and genomics laboratoriesensuring appropriate tests are ordered and results are communicatedefficiently.
  
• Generate patientreports from genomic data.
  
• Assist intraining and mentoring new staff and geneticcounselors.
  
• Benchmark care againstevidencebased practices and hospitalstandards.
  

2.ProfessionalDevelopment

• Identifyand pursue selflearningopportunities.
  
• Mentor staff andstudents through orientation preceptorship and competencybuildingprograms.
  
• Maintain a professionalportfolio and participate in performance improvement initiativesresearch and clinicalaudits.
  

3.Communication

• Fosterrespectful effective communication with patients families andhealthcare teams.
  
• Document relevantpatient information accurately andpromptly.
  
• Advocate for a safeenvironment by proactively addressing and reporting safetyrisks.
  

4.Collaboration

• Advocatefor and involve patients and families in caredecisions.
  
• Coordinate care tooptimize patient outcomes reduce length of stay and enhancesatisfaction.
  
• Promoteinterdisciplinary teamwork to achieve clinical qualitygoals.
  

5.Safety

• Upholdchild safeguarding principles and contribute to the development ofsafety strategies.
  
• Report unsafepractices and proactively addressrisks.
  
• Ensure clarity and accuracyin decisionmaking anddocumentation.
  

Requirements

Education

Essential:

Postgraduatequalification in GeneticCounseling.

• BoardEligibleor BoardCertified by a recognized institution suchas:
  • The American Board ofGenetic Counseling (ABGC)
    
  • TheAmerican Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics(ABMGG)
    

Preferred:

• BoardCertified by a recognizedinstitution.
  
• Minimum of 2 years ofexperience in geneticcounseling.
  

Experience

• Atleast 2 years of clinical experience in a pediatric hospitalspecifically managing complex carepatients.

JobSpecific SkillsandAbilities

• Positiveenthusiastic andselfmotivated.
  
• Strong communicationand interpersonalskills.
  
• Teamoriented with theability to collaborateeffectively.
  
• Familiarity withelectronic medical records is anadvantage.
  
• Proficient in MicrosoftOffice Suite.
  
• Fluency in English(speaking and writing) isrequired.
  
• Arabic language skills(spoken) are an asset.
  
• InternationalEnglish Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or equivalent(valid within the past twoyears).
