Roles and responsibilities
  • Develop and overseestructural designs for a wide range of projects, includingcommercial, residential, and mixed usestructures

Qualifications

  • Bachelor'sdegree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering(Master's degreepreferred)
  • Professional Engineering (PE)license required; Structural Engineering (SE) licensepreferred
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experiencein structural engineering, with a focus on complexprojects
  • Advanced knowledge of structuralengineering principles andpractices
  • Proficiency in structural analysisand design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS,STAAD.Pro)
  • Expertise in regional building codesand standards
  • Strong mathematical andproblem-solving skills
  • Excellent technicalwriting and communication skills
  • Proficiency inAutoCAD and 3D modeling software
  • Expertise inseismic design and analysis
  • Knowledge ofsustainable design practices and green buildingstandards
  • Ability to work effectively in amulticultural environment
  • Willingness to travelto project sites as needed

. Structural Design andAnalysis

  • DesigningStructural Systems: Responsible for designing thestructural framework of buildings, bridges, towers, and otherinfrastructure projects. This involves determining load-bearingcapacity, material selection, and the overall integrity of thestructure.
  • Analyzing StructuralLoads: Conduct detailed analysis of loads (deadloads, live loads, environmental loads like wind, seismic forces,snow, etc.) on structural components to ensure they can handlestresses and strains overtime.
  • Modeling andSimulation: Use advanced design software (e.g.,SAP2000,ETABS,STAAD.Pro,Revit, orANSYS) to create 3D models ofstructures, simulate performance under various conditions, andoptimize designs for safety andcost-efficiency.
  • StructuralDetailing: Ensure that detailed drawings andspecifications are created for all structural components, includingfoundations, beams, columns, slabs, trusses, and any otherstructural elements.

2.Project Leadership andCoordination

  • LeadingDesign Teams: As a senior engineer, you will oftenlead a team of structural engineers, providing mentorship andoversight to junior engineers. This includes delegating tasks,reviewing work, and offering technicalguidance.
  • Coordination with OtherDisciplines: Collaborate with architects, MEP(Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineers, and otherstakeholders to ensure that structural designs integrate seamlesslywith other building systems. This requires a high level ofcommunication andteamwork.
  • ClientInteraction: Engage with clients to understand theirneeds, provide progress updates, discuss design alternatives, andaddress any concerns. May involve presentations to stakeholders orregulatory bodies.

3.Quality Control andCompliance

  • CodeCompliance: Ensure that all structural designscomply with relevant local and international building codes andstandards, such as Eurocodes,ACI (American Concrete Institute)Codes, BSI (British StandardsInstitute), or AISC (AmericanInstitute of Steel Construction) standards. Thisincludes staying up-to-date with changes in building regulationsand safety standards.
  • RiskManagement: Identify potential risks in structuraldesigns and propose solutions to mitigate them. This may includeconsidering factors such as seismic activity, extreme weather, andlong-term durability ofmaterials.
  • QualityAssurance: Conduct quality control checks onstructural calculations, drawings, and designs to ensure they meetsafety, performance, and aesthetic requirements. Review and approvefinal design documentation beforesubmission.

4.ConstructionSupport

  • ConstructionOversight: While primarily a design role, seniorstructural engineers often provide technical support during theconstruction phase, answering queries from contractors and siteengineers. They may perform site visits to ensure that theconstruction matches the designspecifications.
  • Troubleshootingand Problem Solving: Address issues that ariseduring construction, such as unexpected site conditions, designmodifications, or issues related to material availability. Suggestdesign or construction adjustments asneeded.
  • SiteInspections: Oversee the inspection of structuralelements during and after construction to ensure they meet designstandards. Conduct or supervise tests to verify the structuralintegrity of critical elements.
