Theduties of the Principal Transport Planner fallbroadly into two categories Team Management and TechnicalLeadership and Management.  Key duties are asfollows.

TechnicalLeadership andManagement

  • Effectivelyadvise on transport planning and engineering policies and theirimplementation and the related allocation of resources in relationto all services covered by this post
  • Takes thelead on relevant projects in terms of managing the deliveryengaging with the Transportation clients and internalstakeholders.
  • Be aware of and adhere torelevant legislation codes of practice and departmental policieswhen planning and directing the delivery of transport modellingrelated projects in the region
  • Continuouslyimprove technical and industry knowledge by participating in forumsand other industry related programs
  • Researchanalyse and report on a range of future mobility modes. Showexperience in having assessed future mobility modes their planningattributes and how they translate to engineering designrequirements.
  • Prepare tendersubmissions
  • Act as Project Manager on deliveryof transport planning tasks and projects asnecessary
  • Develop detailed methodologies forcarrying out transportation planning works on multidisciplinaryprojects
  • Produce and deliver presentations toclients and teams.
  • Undertake data recording andanalysis tasks
  • Manage the preparation of clientreports bringing together the contributions from other specialistareas of the business
  • Review internal processesfor effectiveness and efficiency and suggest possible areas forimprovement where necessary
  • Other duties asrequired

Team Management

  • Ensure key strategicrelationships with internal and external partners and stakeholdersare effectively developed managed andmaintained
  • Manage lead and produce technicaland financial bids for projects in the region and across otherbusiness lines
  • Ensure delivery is in line withthe Business Lines corporate objectives on time and within theagreed budget
  • Effectively represent AECOM torelevant government departments external agencies and other bodiesappropriate to the post
  • Plan direct and deliverthe services in accordance with appropriate procedures andlegislation
  • Develop and implement initiativesto enhance AECOMs Transport Planning services offering product andsupporting infrastructure (e.g. software modelling tools capabilitystatement etc.)
  • Maintain appropriate liaisonwith the business community stakeholder and advisorygroups
  • Maintain a watching brief on bestworking practices within and beyond local government and ensurethese are effectively communicated to theteam
  • Identify talent within the transportplanning community and work with the practice leaders A to recruitother transport planners and engineer into the SP&A team toenhance local capabilities and grow the business in accordance withworkload
  • Liaise with other AECOM geographies tomaximize the AECOM offering
  • Provide technicalsupervision and fulfil line management duty to juniorstaff
