Roles and responsibilities

The Senior Installation AnalysisEngineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or externalissues to improve the Installation Analysis discipline withinMcDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with lessexperience and share their conceptual and practical expertiserelated to the Installation Analysis discipline. The SeniorInstallation Analysis Engineer solves complex problems and usesdiscipline-specific knowledge to improve their products orservices. The Senior Installation Analysis Engineer impacts a rangeof customer, operational, project, or service activities with theInstallation Analysis team and other related teams and ensures theywork within the appropriate guidelines andpolicies.

Responsibilities

KeyTasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform conceptual, FEED, anddetailed design as per design basis, project specifications, designcodes, and standards
  • Direct Engineering teamwhen assigned as a Project Coordinator onprojects
  • Apply knowledge and skills to a widerange of standard and nonstandardsituations
  • Prepare clear and accurate detaileddesign calculations and analyses including design reports andprocedures
  • Manage own time to meet agreeddeadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term workactivities in own area
  • Communicate and explaincomplex issues and work to establishunderstanding
  • Provide engineering supportonboard installation vessels offshore, when required to doso
  • Be fully familiar with the project scope ofwork, specifications, schedule, and all inter-disciplinerequirements; including identifying concerns as early aspracticable and taking appropriate initiatives to address theissues
  • Identify changes to scope and promptlyraise change notifications, including providing any necessarysupporting documentation and estimates Provide similar support forVariation Orders
  • Interface with all disciplinesto develop clash free designs
  • Interface withother departments to obtain input for discipline designs anddrawings
  • Maintain close cooperation with otherengineering disciplines, Planning, Fabrication, Marine, and ProjectManagement Teams, as required
  • Documentsubstantive communications (communications that result insignificant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copiesto the Discipline Lead Engineer
  • Assist in thepreparation of estimates for bid proposals, including technicalquery reviews, execution statements, and workhourestimates
  • Raise technical queries to obtainmissing information, clarify work scope, and maintain preferredMcDermott procedures, specifications, standards, practices, andoperational requirements
  • Prepare Disciplineengineering design basis, philosophies, and technicalspecifications, as required
  • Participate infinalizing deliverables lists and deliverables, ensuring compliancewith specifications and functionalintegrity
  • Attend project review meetings,vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and offshore site surveys,as required
  • Provide technical direction andreview of Designers producing products related toConstruction/Installation SupportEngineering
  • Prepare and review designreports
  • Assist in providing necessary designinputs to other disciplines to enable them to proceed with theirdeliverables
  • When assigned, assist procurementpersonnel in producing Discipline equipment, materials, andservices; ensuring that work produced complies with customerobjectives and procedures Procurement assistance includes preparingand reviewing requisitions, evaluating technical quotations andpreparing queries, compiling bid tabulations and recommendations,preparing purchase requisitions, and coordinating with Procurementto expedite vendor documents, as directed by Discipline LeadEngineer
Desired candidate profile
  • Provide technical support to all fabricationqueries, including identifying defect/rectificationrequirements
  • Keep the Lead engineer apprised ofall activities and concerns, technical, budgetary, and manpowerrelated
  • Assist in providing inputs for actual,planning, and forecasting progress reports including associatedproductivity
  • Participate in internal, Customer,and third-party technical audits on engineering deliverables andvendor documents
  • Assist Lead engineer withresponses to Customers and other agencies (such as certifyingauthorities, auditors, third parties, etc.) on their review andapproval
  • Capture lessons learned and enter intoMDR's Lessons Learned system
  • Act as aresource for colleagues with lessexperience
  • Guide less experienced engineers onMDR and Discipline procedures, standards, worksheets, designcalculations, software, requisitions, technical bid evaluations,technical queries, etc.
  • Be aware of costsrelated to own work and of the discipline
  • Inthe Pipeline installation discipline, perform/review PipelineInstallation Engineering designs, analyses, evaluations,calculations, and procedures for transportation andinstallation:
    • Submarinepipelines
    • Risers
    • Spools
    • PLETSandmanifolds
    • Cables
  • Inthe Structural Installation discipline, perform/review StructuralInstallation Engineering designs, analyses, evaluations,calculations, and procedures for loadout, transportation, andinstallation of offshore structures, including bargeupgrades/modifications
  • In the NavalInstallation discipline, perform /review Naval ArchitectureEngineering designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, andprocedures related to all aspects of marine operations coveringloadout, transportation, andinstallation
  • Additional skills (preferred, notmandatory) - perform/review designs, analyses, evaluations,calculations, and procedures such as:
    • Erectionsequences for jackets, topsides, and otherstructures
    • Loadout procedures and guidanceduring the operations
    • Construction liftanalyses and procedures for activities such as floatover, stackingsroll-ups, etc.
    • Weighingprocedures
    • Design and detailing ofmiscellaneous fabrication yard items
    • Cranearrangements and rigging arrangements
    • Trailerarrangements/operations, including drawings andprocedures

Qualifications

EssentialQualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in NavalArchitecture, Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering(Master's degree preferred)
  • 8-15 yearsof experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultantpredominantly performing construction and installationdesign
  • Strong working knowledge of many designtechniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of thecontent and application of standards codes and guidelines asapplicable for onshore and offshoreconstruction
  • Preferably Registered ProfessionalEngineer or member of a professional engineeringsociety
