Roles and responsibilities

1. Design LeadershipandOversight

  • StrategicDesign Direction: Lead and define the overall designvision and strategy for the project, ensuring it aligns with theclient's objectives, industry standards, and regulatoryrequirements.
  • Design QualityControl: Oversee the quality of design work,ensuring that all deliverables meet the required standards, aretechnically sound, and are in line with project specifications andclient expectations.
  • DesignCoordination: Coordinate the work ofmultidisciplinary design teams (e.g., architects, structuralengineers, MEP engineers) to ensure integration and coherence inthe final design.

2.Client and StakeholderManagement

  • ClientLiaison: Serve as the primary point of contact forclients regarding design-related issues, ensuring clear and ongoingcommunication throughout the designphase.
  • StakeholderEngagement: Manage relationships with externalstakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, andconsultants, to ensure the design meets all required standards andaddresses any externalconcerns.
  • ClientPresentations: Lead presentations of design conceptsand progress reports to clients and key stakeholders, adjustingdesigns as necessary based onfeedback.

3. ProjectPlanning andCoordination

  • ProjectScheduling: Develop and maintain design timelines,ensuring that the design phase is completed on schedule and alignswith the overall projectschedule.
  • ResourceAllocation: Ensure that appropriate resources, bothhuman and technical, are allocated to the design team and that theteam is working efficiently to meet projectdeadlines.
  • RiskManagement: Identify potential risks related to thedesign phase, such as delays, design conflicts, or budget overruns,and develop strategies to mitigate theserisks.

4. Budget andFinancialManagement

  • BudgetOversight: Monitor design budgets and ensure thatcosts are kept within approved limits. Work closely with projectmanagers to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromisingdesign quality.
  • ValueEngineering: Encourage value engineering efforts tooptimize design solutions, enhance project value, and reduceunnecessary costs.

5.Technical Expertise andInnovation

  • DesignStandards and Codes: Ensure that designs comply withlocal building codes, safety regulations, environmental guidelines,and other relevantstandards.
  • Innovation andSustainability: Foster a culture of innovation indesign, promoting the integration of sustainable practices, energyefficiency, and cutting-edge technologies in the designprocess.
  • ProblemSolving: Address any technical design challengesthat arise, collaborating with engineers and designers to findpractical solutions.

6.Team Leadership andMentorship

  • TeamManagement: Lead and mentor a team of designers,engineers, and architects, providing guidance and direction toensure successful projectdelivery.
  • SkillDevelopment: Foster a collaborative environment,encourage professional development, and ensure that team membershave the necessary skills and resources to perform their roleseffectively.
  • PerformanceManagement: Evaluate the performance of design teammembers, providing feedback and facilitating career growth withinthe organization.

7.Documentation andReporting

  • DesignDocumentation: Oversee the preparation and review ofdesign documents, drawings, specifications, and reports to ensurethey are accurate, complete, and up todate.
  • ProgressReporting: Provide regular updates to seniormanagement and clients on the status of the design phase,highlighting key milestones, potential issues, and correctiveactions.
Desired candidate profile
  • Lead and oversee the successful execution ofdesign projects, ensuring they are completed on time, withinbudget, and in accordance with qualitystandards.
  • Identify and mitigate technical andfinancial risks associated with projects to ensure their successfuldelivery.
  • Coordinate with architects,consultants, and designers to refine designs during thepre-construction phase.
  • Ensure strict adherenceto contract terms and conditions throughout the projectlifecycle.
  • Oversee design deliverables andensure they meet project milestones, technical requirements, andbudget constraints.
  • Prepare detailed projectschedules and timelines, coordinating with various teams to ensureall milestones are met.
  • Identify and mitigaterisks during the pre-construction phase, ensuring that technical,financial, and regulatory risks are adequatelyaddressed.
  • Ensure that all design andconstruction activities comply with local codes, regulations, andsafety standards.
  • Facilitate decision-makingprocesses with key stakeholders to ensure timely progress duringthe pre-construction phase.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor'sdegree in Architecture, Engineering, or a relatedfield.
  • 15+ years of experience in eitherArchitecture or Structural / MEP design Engineering, with the lastfive years in a director / leadrole.
