Roles and responsibilities

A Senior PipingDesigner is responsible for designing and draftingpiping systems, ensuring that they meet safety, regulatory, andengineering standards. This role requires expertise in engineeringdesign principles, an understanding of materials and constructionmethods, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineersand other professionals to deliver high-quality piping designs forvarious industries, including oil and gas, power, petrochemical,and manufacturing.

KeyResponsibilities

  1. PipingDesign andDrafting

    • Lead thedesign of piping systems, including layout, sizing, and materialselection.
    • Create detailed 3D models, 2Ddrawings, and piping isometrics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD,Plant 3D, PDMS, or Revit).
    • Develop pipingdesign schematics and plans in line with project specifications andindustrystandards.

  2. ProjectCoordination andExecution

    • Collaboratewith engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensurethe design meets the projectrequirements.
    • Coordinate with constructionteams to ensure the designs are feasible and align with real-worldconditions.
    • Ensure that designs are deliveredon schedule and withinbudget.

  3. Complianceand StandardsAdherence

    • Ensure thatdesigns comply with industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API, DIN)and local regulatory requirements.
    • Verify thatmaterials, welding, and fabrication methods meet the necessaryspecifications.
    • Conduct stress and flowanalysis of piping systems to ensure systemintegrity.

  4. DesignOptimization

    • Optimizedesigns to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and minimize risksduring installation and operation.
    • Identifypotential design improvements or challenges during the planning andexecution phases.
    • Apply industry best practicesand innovative approaches to complex designchallenges.

  5. Documentationand Reporting

    • Preparetechnical documentation, including design calculations, reports,and specifications.
    • Ensure proper documentationof materials, equipment, and vendorspecifications.
    • Maintain organized records ofrevisions and updates to the pipingdesigns.

  6. Mentoringand Leadership

    • Provideguidance and mentorship to junior piping designers and CADoperators.
    • Lead design reviews and provideconstructive feedback to improve design processes andoutcomes.
    • Ensure quality control through peerreviews and continuous designoptimization.

  7. Problem-Solving

    • Troubleshootand resolve design issues during the construction and installationphases.
    • Develop creative solutions to complexpiping layout challenges, ensuring safety andfunctionality.

Key Designer Role withinthe business to lead discipline designing performance on projects& to provide expert technical design leadership and designassurance on projects asrequired.

Qualifications

  • Diploma of Engineering(Preferable)

Essential

Knowledge/ Experience (Skills):

  • 13 -20 years of Oil & GasDesign Experience.

  • Previous experience inRegion

Technical KnowledgeAnd Skills (Discipline Specific)

  • Knowledge of basic engineeringprocesses
  • Familiarity with international codes,standards and engineering practices
  • Thoroughknowledge of onshore design engineering for the oil, gas and waterfield.
  • Knowledge of 2D & 3D CADapplications
  • Knowledge of ESD is an addedadvantage
  • Familiarity with CTB &different client protocols
  • Familiarity withgeneral arrangement &Isometrics
  • Familiarity with Pipe Supports andPiping Schedule
  • Familiarity with developingplot plans
