The Director Project Management will lead theProject Management Department which is considered as the DETscentral PMO responsible for Leading the DETs portfolio of strategicprograms and their associated projects and initiatives with theobjective of ensuring they fulfil strategic objectives throughdiligent identification planning delivery reporting and hand over.More importantly through this role the Director must ensure thatall project management risks related to cost resources time andpoor change management and stakeholder alignment are identified andstrictly mitigated and managed to drive the achievement of project/ initiative objectives and to maximize their value and return oninvestment.

The Director mustalso work to enhance the level of project management capabilityacross the DET through overseeing effective knowledge transfer andtraining to the core business and other support / enablingfunctions. Ultimately through effectively managing this Departmentthe Director should ensure that the DETs strategic objectives andtargets can be fulfilled through the right projects andinitiatives.

This role playsa vital part in shaping the future of project management within DETsetting a benchmark for excellence and efficiency. It ensures theeffective completion of projects in alignment with DETs needs andobjectives supporting DETs growth in line with the D33 agenda andobjectives.

  • Overseethe development of DETs project planning and documentationmethodology in line with leading practices andguidelines
  • Oversee the review of proposedstrategic projects (at the time of project conception) from theStrategy & Planning Section as well as other businessowners to ensure alignment with the overall strategy.
  • Ensure that all project charters developed bybusiness owners / project managers are reviewed and that theyconform with the level of detail required to promote effectiveplanning (in terms of scope of work objectives assumptions risksand issues project governance activities).
  • Oversee the provision of support to allproject managers and business owners across the DET to enable themto develop quality project plans and charters which will enableeffective project / initiative management.
  • Oversee the implementation of ongoing followup and tracking of all active strategic projects / initiatives toensure execution in line with the defined timelines and budgets.
  • Ensure that the section provides internalstakeholder and project managers clear support as it pertains tothe identification mitigation and management of risks e.g. delaysbudget over runs and others (and other risks / issues); provideinputs to support them in defining remedial actions to rectify suchrisks and issues.
  • Oversee the development ofand review periodic reports (project specific and portfoliospecific) to report on the status of all active projects to theleadership and the DG; this also entails reviewing reportsdeveloped for submission to The Executive Council and otherexternal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to thedevelopment of the Corporate Strategy & Performance Sectorsstrategy and drive overall performance through providing inputs onthe Project Management Departments strategy priorities andinitiatives.
