Essential Duties& Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver courses indesignated areas of study.
  • Uphold thefundamental standards of the University, including Teaching,Research, and Service.
  • Evaluate and monitorindividual student progress, providing feedback to promote studentsuccess.
  • Research, organize, and manageinstructional resources, course outlines, and communitynetworks.
  • Actively seek methods, procedures,and resources to effectively achieve courseobjectives.
  • Support and participate inaccreditation initiatives.
  • Perform otherjob-related duties as assigned.

This includes understanding how toaddress the mental health needs of diversepopulations.
  • Trauma-InformedCare: Promoting approaches to care that recognizethe impact of trauma on mental health and ensuring that studentsand professionals are trained in providing sensitive,trauma-informed care.
Desired candidate profile

1. Expertise in MentalHealth

  • MentalHealth Disorders: In-depth knowledge of variousmental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolardisorder, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. This includesunderstanding the causes, symptoms, diagnostic criteria, andtreatment options for eachdisorder.
  • Psychological Theoriesand Approaches: Expertise in different psychologicaltheories, therapeutic modalities, and frameworks for understandingmental health, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT),psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-basedapproaches.
  • Mental HealthTreatment: Knowledge of various mental healthtreatment approaches, including pharmacological treatments,psychotherapy, counseling, and alternativetherapies.
  • Preventive MentalHealth: Understanding of preventative measures,early intervention strategies, and public health initiatives aimedat improving mental health at the populationlevel.
  • Health Systems andPolicy: Understanding how mental health services arestructured within healthcare systems, including the role of publicpolicy, social determinants of health, and healthcareaccess.

2. Teaching andCurriculumDevelopment

  • CourseDesign: Developing and delivering courses atundergraduate and graduate levels on topics related to mentalhealth, including clinical psychology, mental health interventions,psychiatric disorders, mental health policy, and the social aspectsof mentalhealth.
  • InterdisciplinaryTeaching: Teaching students from variousdisciplines, such as psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social work,and public health, and integrating mental health topics intobroader healthcare, social science, and human servicescurricula.
  • PracticalTraining: Providing students with practicalexperiences, such as clinical placements, internships, orfieldwork, to apply theoretical knowledge in real-worldsettings.
  • StudentEvaluation: Designing assessments such as exams,papers, projects, and presentations to evaluate students'understanding of mental health concepts and their ability to applythem in professional contexts.

3.Research and ScholarlyActivity

  • MentalHealth Research: Conducting research in areasrelated to mental health, such as the epidemiology of mental healthdisorders, the effectiveness of treatments, the relationshipbetween mental health and other aspects of health (e.g., physicalhealth, substance abuse), and mental health in marginalizedpopulations.
  • Clinical Trials andStudies: Designing and leading clinical trials,longitudinal studies, or qualitative research projects that explorevarious aspects of mental health care, including the effectivenessof different therapies or treatmentmodels.
  • Collaboration withHealthcare Providers: Collaborating with hospitals,clinics, and community organizations to gather data, sharefindings, and implement evidence-based practices in mental healthcare.
  • Publication:Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and presentingfindings at academic conferences to contribute to the knowledgebase and advancement of thefield.
  • GrantWriting: Writing research proposals and securingfunding for mental health research projects from governmentagencies, non-profit organizations, and privatefoundations.

4.Supervision andMentorship

  • GraduateStudent Supervision: Supervising graduate students(Master's, PhD, and postdoctoral researchers) in theirmental health-related research projects, theses, and dissertations.Providing guidance on research design, methodology, datacollection, analysis, andwriting.
  • CareerMentorship: Advising students on careeropportunities in mental health, including clinical practice,academia, policy-making, and mental health advocacy. Supportingstudents in their professional development and helping themnavigate the mental healthfield.
  • ResearchMentorship: Providing mentorship and guidance tojunior faculty and early-career researchers, helping them developtheir research programs, publish in academic journals, and securefunding for their work.

5.Community Outreach andAdvocacy

  • MentalHealth Education: Engaging in public outreach toincrease awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma, andpromote mental health literacy incommunities.
