Roles and responsibilities

The Senior Piping Material Engineeruses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues toimprove the Piping discipline within McDermott. They will act as aresource for colleagues with less experience and share theirconceptual and practical expertise related to the Pipingdiscipline. The Senior Piping Engineer solves complex problems anduses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products orservices. The Senior Piping Engineer impacts a range of customer,operational, project, or service activities with the Piping teamand other related teams and ensures that they work within theappropriate guidelines andpolicies.

Responsibilities

KeyTasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform conceptual, FEED, or detaileddesign analysis and develop them as per project Scope of Work,design basis, project documentation, design codes and standards,and McDermott procedures within the planned schedule andbudget
  • Direct Engineering team as a LeadEngineer on small projects
  • Apply skills andknowledge of the business, take a new perspective on existingsolutions to address problems and non-standard situations, andreport them to the Lead Piping Engineer at an earlystage
  • Prepare detailed design calculations andanalyses including design reports andprocedures
  • Manage own time to meet agreeddeadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term workactivities in own area
  • communicate and explaincomplex issues and work to establishunderstanding
  • Ensure interfaces anddeliverables are identified
  • Use best practicesand knowledge of internal or external issues to improve products orservices
  • Focus on health and safety policiesand procedures
  • Become fully familiar with theproject Scope of Work, Specification, Schedule, and allinter-discipline requirements
  • Interface withother departments to obtain input for engineering anddesign
  • Interface with High-Value Centers(HVECs) ensuring a clear understanding of their Scope ofWork
  • Support 3D-Model review at 30%, 60%& 90% progress
  • Identifying changes toscope and promptly raising a notification
  • Alertthe team of any deviation from the Scope of work or a need for achange order
  • Prepare design philosophies,specifications, pipe supports, standard detail drawings, MTO, andmaterial requisitions by the project scope of work andcontract
  • Explain difficult or sensitiveinformation; works to build understanding
  • Fullyfamiliar with P&ID, Line List, Equipment List, Layout,Piping Specifications, and design basis
  • Workindependently, with minimal guidance whenrequired
  • Act as a resource for colleagues withless experience

Project Management Team, DocumentControl, Project Cost Control and Planning Group, ProcurementGroup, Subcontractors

and Vendors,Clients

Supervises: Associate Engineers andEngineers

Qualifications

EssentialQualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree orMaster's degree in MechanicalEngineering
  • 8-15 years of experience in oil andgas with a major contractor or consultants predominantly performingdetail design
  • Preferably RegisteredProfessional Engineer or member of a professional engineeringsociety
  • Flexible for BusinessTravelling
  • Committed to McDermottvalues
  • Detailed knowledge of Pre-FEED, FEED,and Detailed Design Phases of Projects
  • Detailedknowledge and experience of design techniques and application ofstandards, codes, and guidelines
  • Familiar withall Piping Sub-Disciplines including Design and Modelling, PipeStress & Support, Piping Material Engineering, and MTOactivities and deliverables
  • Knowledgeable inproject coordination and executionskills
  • Conversant with international codes andstandards like ANSI, ASME, API, BS, NFPA,etc.
  • Familiar with SP3D / E3D /Navisworks
  • Familiar with stick-built andmodularization approach
