Roles and responsibilities

The Senior DirectorEngineering executes Engineering or Engineering (Eng) strategy toachieve key business objectives. The Senior DirectorEngineering's work is guided by company strategy andEngineering (Eng) business objectives and directly impacts businessresults. The Senior Director Engineering evaluates key businesschallenges and directs the development of new and innovativesolutions. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the Engineering(Eng), business, and commercial expertise to differentiate Thecompany from thecompetition.

Responsibilities

KeyTasks and Responsibilities:

  • Vision/Strategy
    • Promotebusiness ethics and values
    • Prepare KPIs for theteam in line with organization goals andobjectives
    • Guide ULN (Unifi Leadership Network)team members for process improvements and involvement in technicalreviews
    • Participate in reviews to ensureappropriate rigor and quality of review isachieved
    • Provide leadership and direction for amulti-discipline group of Engineeringdepartments
    • Create and foster a positiveworking environment that promotes teamwork within the Engineeringfunction and all other functional areas (Sales, Estimating, ProjectManagement, Project Controls, Manufacturing, Construction, andHR)
    • Develop business plans in line withbusiness line objectives
    • Represent and ensurecompliance with company policies andstandards
    • Directs the resolution of complex orunusual business problems that cross-discipline and functionallines
  • Finance/budgets
    • Hasfull responsibility for Engineering overhead budgets for one ormulti-office reporting to them
    • Prepare andsubmit budgets for business lineapproval
    • Approve and manage Engineeringoverhead budgets and forecasts
    • Develop andadminister Engineering salary plans
    • Participatein Proposal gatereviews
  • Operations
    • Accountablefor performance and results of multiple disciplines withinengineering offices and/or departments
    • Proposescope split between MDR offices and or subcontractors (asapplicable) at the bid stage and at theaward
    • Assist the project teams in identifyingand accessing McDermott Technical Authorities asrequired
    • Support the development of Proposalsand Project Estimates and approve engineering schedule, work hours,and material quantity estimates
    • Keep abreast ofproject performance by reviewing all engineering schedules andquality performance, work hours, and material quantityestimates
    • Suggest ideas for cost-cutting andefficiency improvements
    • Provide Projects withqualified resources, processes, and tools necessary to ensure thequality, schedule, and budget performance ofprojects
    • Support and drive the collection ofclose-out reports and close-outmetrics
  • People
    • Organizeand monitor training and coaching of staff toward professionaldevelopment
    • Evaluate performance andcompensation for reports
    • Collaborate with HR onrecruiting and resolution of personnelissues
  • BusinessLine
    • Support the continuous improvement andLessons Learned process initiatives
    • Promote,support, and develop potential work sharing and resolve utilizationopportunities with other MDR offices locatedworldwide
    • Evaluate new systems, tools, andtechnology advancements against existing design standards toimprove delivery certainty and advise on suitability whereapplicable

    • ApproveProject-specific procedures
    • Review of projectclose-out reports
    • Conduct periodic technicalaudits forcompliance
  • People
    • Monitorthe creation of Competency matrices
    • Conductstaff FEED Back meetings
    • Monitor the creationof and follow-up of succession plans
    • Monitorhiring strategies/recruitment effort/recruitment ofjuniors
    • Establish and maintain relationshipswith universities
    • Identify high potentialsthrough Engineering People Meetings and 9-box Talentmanagement
    • Monitor development and trainingplans, make sure PPDPs are in place for keypersonnel
  • Office
    • Maintainthe office workload forecast (MPS) and provide input on monthlyinput to key proposals, scenarios, and keyassignments
    • Support global and business lineengineering by creating and implementing Improvementinitiatives
    • Follow up on internal designcompetitions
    • Ensure the Lessons Learned processisfollowed

Liaise with:Operations Manager(s), Office Leads, Functional Directors, ProjectDirector/Manager, Clients,Authorities

Supervises: Director ofEngineering, Department ManagersEngineering

Qualifications

EssentialQualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's orMaster's degree in Engineering
  • 30+years of experience in relevantindustry
  • Professional registration preferred(e.g. Eur Ing, CEng, PE)
  • Participate inmeetings with critical clients/vendors during the proposal andexecution phases of projects
  • Flexible to takeup assignments globally
  • Keen to improve theeffectiveness of the work
  • Self-follow andpromote others to follow to work ethical manners in theorganization
  • Critically assess the balancedskilled manpower deployment onprojects
