Jumeirah Group's newest resort Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab will lead a new generation of Group's ultra-luxury portfolio. Nestled at the tip of a peninsula at the heart of Dubai's largest private beach, with design influences of a futuristic superyacht, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab will feature 303 rooms, 84 suites, and 82 serviced residences set amid private landscaped gardens. It encompasses specially integrated wellness and leisure destinations and an impressive line-up of signature restaurants, including a new concept comprising 4 restaurants in 1. With all rooms offering a panoramic vista over the Arabian Sea, this statement property will mark a new epoch for Jumeirah Group.

About the Job:

An opportunity has arisen for an Associate Health and Safety Director to join Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. The main duties and responsibilities of this role:

Operational:

  • Act as the focal point for HSE-related requirements during the pre-opening phase of the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab resort.
  • Develop and implement the Marsa Al Arab Health, Safety, and Environment Management System.
  • Provide and implement HSE policies, procedures, and guidelines for Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab.
  • Develop and implement the pre-opening plan/guidelines for the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab Engineering Team and monitor their progress.
  • Monitor and assess performance and compliance with the Jumeirah HSE Management System, and produce appropriate reports for the business.
  • Conduct HSE audits of the hotel and resort as per the site HSE audit plan.
  • Review and present the "Jumeirah HSE Report and Dashboard" for the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab resort and arrange monthly HSE representatives' meetings.
  • Handle issues with external contractors and assist engineering in signing off the pre-qualification of contractors in terms of HSE method statements and risk assessments.
  • Make service requests as required in respect of contractors providing consultancy services, e.g., third-party auditing and laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare documents and processes for the tender program for external contractors related to HSE issues.

Administrative:

  • Handle administrative activities and inquiries for the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab HSE Department.
  • Maintain accurate and secure HSE-related records, ensure an adequate filing system for the HSE department, and manage the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab HSE Team sites.
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the L&D Manager, the training and development program for colleagues involved with HSE-related tasks.
  • Coordinate with external HSE regulators and other external stakeholders as required.
  • Communicate new or amended procedures to relevant departments/colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and arrange the purchase of approved Capex items and budgeted items, including equipment, in line with the HSE local budget.

Incident Investigation:

  • Serve as the technical lead for HSE investigations regarding incidents and issues, collaborating closely with the Security team and other first responders. Produce comprehensive technical reports following any significant incident as instructed by the General Manager(s) and Group HSE Director G&C.

Food Sampling:

  • Prepare a food sampling plan, coordinate with contracted laboratories, monitor the results, and verify corrective actions if any unsatisfactory results are obtained

Sustainability:

  • Serve as the point of contact within the hotel and resort for all sustainability matters. Act as the focal point for gathering relevant sustainability data required by G&C Sustainability.

About you:

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following experience and qualifications:

The HSE role requires a breadth of qualification and/ or experience across the Occupational Safety, Food Safety and environmental management disciplines. Such experience is desirable, however investment into the candidates training will be made to bridge gaps in qualification.

  • First Degree in Environmental/ Public Health or Equivalent academic subject.
  • Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health. Desirable – Certificated of IOSH or NEBOSH or equivalent etc.
  • HACCP Level 4 certification
  • HACCP Internal Audit certification
  • Relevant certificate in Environmental Management
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in HSE field, preferably in hospitality sector and have a good knowledge of local and international legislation, standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational and administrative skills, good time management skills with the ability to interact with different groups of diverse needs
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written
  • Excellent typing skills, grammar, and spelling in English
  • Advanced user to Microsoft office program in an office setting such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
