The Legal Advisor in a FastMovingConsumer Goods (FMCG) company provides expert legal counsel andsupport to the organization ensuring compliance with lawsregulations and industry standards while mitigating legal risks.This position involves advising on a wide range of legal mattersincluding contracts regulatory compliance intellectual propertydisputes and corporate governance. The Legal Advisor plays a keyrole in protecting the companys interests resolving legal issuesand supporting businessoperations.

KeyResponsibilities:

  1. LegalAdvisory andCompliance:
    • Provide legalguidance and support to internal stakeholders on a variety of legalmatters including commercial contracts regulatory complianceemployment law and consumerprotection.
    • Interpret lawsregulations and industry standards relevant to the FMCG sectorensuring the companys activities and policies comply with legalrequirements.
    • Monitor legaldevelopments and changes in regulations affecting the FMCG industryadvising management on potential impacts and necessaryactions.
  2. ContractReview andNegotiation:
    • Review draftand negotiate a wide range of contracts and agreements includingsupplier contracts distribution agreements sales contracts andlicensing agreements.
    • Ensurecontracts are legally sound accurately reflect the companysinterests and mitigate risks related to liability indemnitytermination and disputeresolution.
    • Collaborate withbusiness teams to negotiate favorable terms and resolve contractdisputes ordiscrepancies.
  3. IntellectualProperty Protection:
    • Manageintellectual property assets including trademarks patentscopyrights and trade secrets ensuring proper registrationprotection and enforcement of IPrights.
    • Conduct IP clearancesearches assess infringement risks and advise on strategies toprotect and defend the companys IPportfolio.
    • Draft and reviewIPrelated agreements such as licensing agreements nondisclosureagreements andassignments.
  4. DisputeResolution and LitigationManagement:
    • Manage andoversee legal disputes and litigation matters including claimsdisputes with vendors or customers regulatory investigations andenforcement actions.
    • Collaboratewith external legal counsel as needed providing guidance andinstructions managing litigation strategy and evaluating settlementoptions.
    • Seek to resolve disputesthrough negotiation mediation or alternative dispute resolutionmethods wheneverfeasible.
  5. CorporateGovernance andCompliance:
    • Ensurecompliance with corporate governance principles legal requirementsand ethical standards advising on board matters corporate policiesand compliance programs.
    • Assist inthe preparation and filing of corporate documents such as annualreports board resolutions and regulatoryfilings.
    • Provide training andguidance to employees on legal and compliance matters promoting aculture of integrity and legal compliance throughout theorganization.

QualificationsandSkills:

  • Bachelorsdegree in law (LLB) from an accredited institution; admission tothe bar or equivalent legal qualification isrequired.
  • Proven experience as alegal advisor or inhouse counsel preferably in the FMCG industry ora related field.
  • Strong knowledge ofcommercial law contract law intellectual property law andregulatory compliance relevant to the FMCGsector.
  • Excellent analyticalresearch and problemsolving skills with the ability to analyzecomplex legal issues and provide practicalsolutions.
  • Effective communicationand negotiation skills with the ability to communicate legalconcepts clearly and concisely to nonlegalstakeholders.


-Bachelor's degree in law (LLB) from an accredited institution;admission to the bar or equivalent legal qualification is required.-Proven experience as a legal advisor or in-house counsel,preferably in the FMCG industry or a related field. -Strongknowledge of commercial law, contract law, intellectual propertylaw, and regulatory compliance relevant to the FMCG sector.-Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, withthe ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practicalsolutions.
