Roles and responsibilities
  1. Materials engineersdevelop, process, and test materials that create products rangingfrom computer chips and aircraft wings to golf clubs or biomedicaldevices. They study the properties and structures of metals,ceramics, plastics, or nanometals to create new materials that meetspecific mechanical, electrical, and chemical requirements.Materials engineers develop new ways to use existing materials, andthey evaluate new projects and consult with other engineers andmanagers on projects as necessary.
  3. Materials engineers prepare proposals andbudgets, analyze labor costs, and write reports. They perform othermanagerial tasks including supervising technicians, technologists,and other engineers and scientists. They design and direct thetesting of processing procedures, monitor how materials perform,and evaluate how materials deteriorate. Materials engineersdetermine the cause of product failure, and they develop ways toovercome future failures. Materials engineers need abachelor's degree in materials science and engineering or arelated engineering field.
  4. Bachelor'sor Graduate's Degree in computer science, engineering,mechanical engineering or optical engineering or equivalentexperience.
  5. Experience with SCADA, SAP 54, C,and CAD Software and systems.
  6. Demonstratedleadership and problem solving skills.
  7. Fluencyin enterprise resource planning, project design, and reportwriting.
  8. Six Sigmatraining.
  9. Is a critical thinker dedicated tocontinuous improvement.
  10. Solid critical thinkingskills.
  11. Experience with Modbus and RLanguage.

Desired candidate profile
  1. Materials engineers source, testand assess the materials used in construction. Theyensure that building foundations and materials are suitable andoffer guidance on the best materials to use for a project, based ontheir individual properties, project costs andtimeframes.

  13. Assist with business development,project delivery and will manage projects from start tocompletion.
  14. Supervise and participate in layingout composite materials for molding and filamentwinding.
  15. Prepare and analyze status reports ofmaterials, equipment, and parts.
  16. Ensure projectteam understands the results expected and their role, train, directand review their work and give feedback asappropriate.
  17. Run and analyze experiments totest materials and processes.
  18. Schedule,coordinate and delegate project work including purchase of neededmaterials and/or services from outsidevendors.
  19. Provide technical assistance onmaterials and related process issues whenrequested.
  20. Create test procedures, qualityplans, and transferrable documents associated with new materialsand processes for successfulimplementation.
  21. Create and implement tools toaudit efficiency and identify cost reduction opportunities acrossthe factory and the warehouse.
  22. Managetechnical, budgetary and schedule performance to achieve clientsatisfaction and repeat business.
  23. Keep theproject on schedule, ensure project remains within budget, ensureaccurate and timely billing and follow up on billpayments.
  24. Provide senior engineering expertise,quality assurance and will lead the expansion of our materials andgeotechnical business lines.
  25. The position isdesigned to fit with the alternating school and work semesterschedules established by many engineeringcolleges.
  26. Assist in the development ofalternative materials for water heaters and water treatmentsystems.
  27. Responsible for identifying newtechnologies for our products and distributing throughout thebusiness unit.
  28. Develop and maintainrelationships of interest both internally andexternally.
  29. Support and maintain a functioninglab with necessary test capability and expertconsultation.
  30. Implement and comply withindustry and regulatory standards and advise the business ofpending changes or areas ofinterest.
  31. Investigate techniques like cementedcarbides, Clad materials, induction hardening, laser hardening,laser welding, resistive welding, layered sintering, additivemanufacturing, self-sharpening (chipping/wear) and other newlyavailable opportunities.
  32. Embrace the necessityfor change and commitment to continual growth andprogress.
  33. Develop reports detailing researchconclusions and measurement results for delivery tosponsors.
  34. Ensure quality product by usingnecessary measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers andpi tapes.
  35. Develop and plan projects by definingthe scope through analysis and evaluation of alternate solutions tothe client's problem, writes proposals and obtains approvalto move ahead with the project.
