Roles and responsibilities

Performs advanced commissioning, troubleshooting and fact-finding tasks on gas turbines, steam turbines or generators and associated auxiliary systems. Applies advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently. Displays a high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution to high impact, complex, and/or cross-functional problems.
What are my responsibilities?

  • Maintaining optimum interaction with Project Leader, Design departments and customer representatives - Ensuring that all project related activities are planned and executed in accordance with QA standards and procedures, the relevant project documentation, as well as health and safety requirements.
  • Perform commissioning and fact-finding activities on gas turbines, steam turbines or generators in power station worldwide in accordance with Siemens Energy Standards.
  • Cost effective execution of work within allocated budget and time - These calls for effective planning aimed at optimal use of resources for maximum productivity.
  • Support sales and planning departments in the preparation of tenders, quotations, time schedules and requirement lists.
  • Participate in customer meetings and provide technical support during sales efforts.
  • Identifies potential delays and minimizes their impact. Supports claim management.
  • Power plant maintenance experience is an advantage.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Ideally at least 5 years' experience in Field Service.
  • Experience of leading a small technical team.
  • Advanced knowledge of English written and spoken. Experience in multicultural teams required.
  • Willingness to work abroad and do shift work.
  • 70%-80% of travelling required.
  • Vocational School / Technical College/University in Electrical Degree.
  • Result driven, Initiative, Team Player & self-motivated.
Desired candidate profile

1. Gas Turbine Fundamentals

  • In-depth knowledge of gas turbine principles , including the Brayton cycle and thermodynamic processes involved in turbine operation.
  • Understanding of the components of a gas turbine , such as compressors, combustion chambers, turbines, and exhaust systems.
  • Familiarity with gas turbine types (e.g., heavy-duty industrial turbines, aeroderivative turbines) and their applications in power generation and propulsion.

2. Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer

  • Expertise in thermodynamic analysis to assess turbine efficiency, performance, and fuel consumption.
  • Understanding of heat transfer principles to optimize turbine cooling and combustion processes.
  • Ability to evaluate and optimize operating conditions for maximum performance and fuel efficiency.

3. Gas Turbine Design and Engineering

  • Proficiency in turbine design considerations, including aerodynamics , material selection , and mechanical design .
  • Ability to design and optimize combustion chambers , turbine blades , and exhaust systems to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
  • Knowledge of advanced turbine technologies, such as high-temperature alloys , ceramic coatings , and additive manufacturing for enhanced performance.

4. Performance Monitoring and Optimization

  • Expertise in performance analysis to monitor efficiency, output, and fuel consumption during turbine operation.
  • Ability to use performance curves and sensor data to assess turbine health and efficiency.
  • Identifying opportunities for performance optimization , such as adjusting operational parameters or upgrading components for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

5. Control Systems and Automation

  • Familiarity with control systems used to monitor and regulate turbine operation, such as digital turbine controllers , SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and DCS (Distributed Control Systems) .
  • Knowledge of automation systems to control fuel input, air intake, combustion process, and turbine speed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize control system algorithms for efficient turbine operation.

6. Gas Turbine Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Experience with preventive maintenance techniques, including inspection , cleaning , and lubrication of turbine components.
  • Ability to perform condition-based monitoring and diagnostic tests to detect wear, cracks, or other issues that might affect turbine performance.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting turbine failures, understanding root causes of performance degradation, and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.

7. Fuel and Combustion Systems

  • Understanding of different fuel types (e.g., natural gas, diesel, biofuels) and their impact on turbine performance and emissions.
  • Ability to optimize the combustion process for efficient fuel use, low emissions, and stable operation.
  • Knowledge of NOx reduction technologies and emissions control to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

8. Mechanical and Structural Engineering

  • Expertise in the mechanical design of gas turbines, including turbine blades, casings, rotors, and shafts.
  • Understanding of fatigue , stress analysis , and material properties to design and select components that can withstand the high temperatures and forces present in a turbine.
  • Familiarity with the structural integrity of turbine systems, particularly in high-speed rotating equipment, and ensuring they meet safety and durability standards.
