Infection Control Nurse

- Supportsstaff in the care of patients with infection and collaborates withmultidisciplinary care givers in revising treatmentregimens.
- Demonstratesproblem solving / critical thinking skills ensuring effectivefunctioning of jobperformance.
- Assessesthe educational needs of staff related to infection control andprevention, and assists in providing educational programs for staffin coordination with the unit nursemanager/designee.
- Teaches,supports, coaches and mentors nursing staff to promoteevidence-based practice, knowledge, skills, and professionaldevelopment related to infection control andprevention.
- Liaiseswith hospital departments in monitoring standards of care relatingto infection control and prevention. Reviews appropriate policies,procedures and updates according to evidence based, bestpractices.
- Participatesin unit/departmental meetings and committees/projects asrequired.
- Chairsthe Infection Control link meetings and guides the link workers onbest practices in infection control andprevention.
- Performsadditional duties whenrequired.
- Reportsmodifiable diseases to the Ministry and Department of Health/DHAthus ensuring American Hospital Dubai compliance with Nationalhealthdirectives.
- Liaiseswith and updates the Physicians and multidisciplinary team for anysignificant changes in the plan of care ofinfections.
- Takespart in the nursing orientation to orient about infection controlservices.
- Assessesstaff’s skills for wound care management and providesadditional training asneeded.
- Demonstratesknowledge of and the ability to render care and services based onneeds, age appropriateness and developmental stage ofpatients.
- Performsinfection control management in accordance with establishedstandards, policies and procedures and best practiceguidelines.
- Maintainsaccurate and thorough documentation following establishedstandards.
- Conductson-going surveillance using Center of Disease Control (CDC)criteria.
- Documentsand investigates nosocomial infections through review of admissiondiagnosis, microbiology culture results, isolation orders, patientrecords, consultation requests and post-dischargesurveillance.
- Conductsenvironmental rounds in all in-patient and out-patient care areas.Collect data on the incidence of selected device use in identifiedintensive careunits.
- Participatesin investigations of unusual hospital infections outbreaksutilizing the microbiology laboratory, consultation with InfectiousDiseases Physician, Department of Health and reportepidemiologically significant findings to appropriatecustomers.
- Providesinput in the selection of Quality measures related to infectioncontrol and collects and analyses dataaccordingly.
- Reportsall in-house patients with communicable disease to the healthdepartment and maintains appropriate records. Compiles andinterprets surveillance reports to Infection Control committee,specialty areas and executive medical committee on a regularbasis.
- Receives,collates and formats surveillance data into managerial reports anddisseminates information to all endusers.
- Actsas an advisory resource on Infection Control issues for NursingAdministration, In-patient and Out-patientDepartments.
- Developsa close working relationship with all clinical staff in order topromote a consistent and collaborative approach to InfectionControl including the Purchasing Department thereby ensuring thatthe Infection Control Nurse is consulted prior to the purchase ofequipment/consumables which may have impact on patientcare.
- Monitorsand evaluates isolation, aseptic and patient care techniques inorder to maintain optimum care to patients and safeguards AmericanHospitalstaff.
- Developsand updates isolation techniques and procedures in accordance withcurrent standards of practice, rules andregulations.
- Makesrecommendations regarding construction, renovation, environmentalrounds, and assures compliance with national and/or professionalstandards.
- Maintainscurrent knowledge of recent advances in Infection Control bothinternational and local issues, promoting evidence-based practiceat all times. Disseminates information asappropriate.
- Initiatesnew programs of education and training to facilitate changes inpractice.
- Incollaboration with units and departments, participates in theassessment of the equipment, techniques, products etc., in relationto Infection Control, making recommendations for specific educationandtraining.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BachelorDegree in Nursing (duration not less than three academic years)
- Post Graduate Degree or Diploma/Certificate ofapproved Infection Control course ispreferable.
