United Arab Emirates Barclays Full time

Purpose of the role

To ensure that the operations in the country or region are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and to help the bank manage legal and reputational risks associated with these activities.

Accountabilities

  1. Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.
  2. Legal advice and support to the bank's country coverage teams on a wide range of legal issues, including regulatory compliance, risk management, project management and transactional matters.
  3. Representation of the bank in legal proceedings related to its operations in the country or region, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.
  4. Creation and review of legal documents such as loan agreements, security documents, and other financing documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  5. Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank's operations in the country or region.
  6. Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to the bank's operations in the country or region.
  7. Pro-active identification, communication, and provision of legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs). Keeping up to date with regards to changes to LRRs in the relevant coverage area. Ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to, and adequately reflected within, the relevant policies, standards and controls.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

  1. To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  2. Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.
  3.   4. OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  5. Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  6. Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  7. Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  8. Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  9. Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  10. Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  11. Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  12. Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
