Job Description includes but is not limited to:

  1. Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students. Create and utilize appropriate materials and the classroom environment to cater for different learning styles.
  2. Show written evidence of planning and preparation on request. Establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment plans.
  3. Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
  4. Teach students assigned according to their individual needs using appropriate teaching strategies that meet student needs and abilities (e.g., late-entering students, ESL, low academic ability, gifted and talented, etc.).
  5. Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
  6. Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students on educational matters.
  7. Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
  8. Participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  9. Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral arrangements.
  10. Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes in the school. Promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
  11. Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
  12. Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding and promote a love of learning.
  13. Assist in the planning and organizing of school events and functions (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days, etc.).
  14. Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information.
Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. A certified professional teaching qualification at degree level, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent in specialism.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of solid and demonstrable experience within SEL and Counseling, ideally within an IB Curriculum School; however, this is not mandatory.
  3. The experience, personality, and educational philosophy to drive further the education agenda at this flagship GEMS school with an international student body.
  4. The desire to provide outstanding teaching and learning.
