The Programme SupervisorPerformance Design (Set and Costume) position (equivalentto
is a fulltimerole
focused on teaching Set andCostume Design at the postgraduate level. Thesuccessful
candidate will beexpected to supervise postgraduate students in the Master of FineArts
(MFA) programme (Theatre andLive Performance Creation: Set and Costume Design)and
participate as a member ofthesis supervisory committees.
Thefaculty member will mentor postgraduate students as necessary andteach a mix of
skills in thepostgraduate Set and Costume Design concentration classes (e.g.design
foundation history anddesign genres/forms). Additionally they may take on the rolesfor

overseeing the dynamic and safepractice within the delivery of set and costumedesignrelated
teaching. This leadrole requires a skill set where the candidate hasextensive
practical experience intheir field and a successful record of accomplishment incourse
management leadingassessment/feedback budgeting and effectively leading a team.They
will work collaborativelyalongside the other departments within the ActingMusical

Set and Costume Designon companys productions (to be confirmed) and supervise MFAstudent
designers working duringcompanys productions.
TheatreDance and Production Arts programmes and the wider faculty at thecompany. The
Programme SupervisorPerformance Design (Set and Costume) reports directly tothe
Programme Leader PostgraduateStudies and may be responsible for providing Setand
Costume Design to allprogrammes in coordination with the ProgrammeLeader
PostgraduateStudies.
Research and ScholarlyActivities policy and Faculty Policies. Maintainingprofessional
engagement at thelocal national and international levels will beencouraged.
Duties andResponsibilities
Report directlyto Programme Leader Postgraduate Studies and ultimatelythe
Executive Director to ensurethey are kept wellinformed in their areasof
responsibility.
Implement the development and delivery of all Set and CostumeDesign courses
within thepostgraduate programme. Prioritising safe practice will befundamental
alongside developingand inspiring innovative teaching that connectswith
multidisciplinary trainingthat remains dynamic and relevant to theindustry.
Organise and facilitatethe faculty pertaining to all activities within the Setand
Costume Design concentrationclasses.
Collaborate with thepostgraduate faculty to administer course assessmentsto
deliver structured feedbackthat supports and enhances learning anddevelopment
for Set and Costumecourses.
Assist the ProgrammeLeader Postgraduate Studies with timetabling andscheduling
for Set and CostumeDesign courses.
Assist theProgramme Leader Postgraduate Studies in the interview andselection
process for hiringadditional Designers for productions (asrequired).
Assist the ProgrammeLeader Postgraduate Studies in outreach andstudent
recruitment efforts toensure sustained high levels ofenrolment.
The ProgrammeSupervisor Performance Design (Set and Costume) may takeon
additional teachingresponsibilities related to the postgraduateprogramme
including managingcurriculum documentation course files andcourse
administration to adhere tothe institutions quality assurancestandards.
The successfulcandidate will also demonstrate the potential to meet companysexpectations
for ResearchScholarship and Creative Activity Teaching and Service as definedin company s
Knowledge andExperience
Essential:
Terminal Degree (MFA or PhD) or demonstrate and verify equivalentindustry or
professionalexperience or additional qualifications in professionalperforming
artseducation.
Significantprofessional theatre experience as a Set and Costume Designer (810
yearsminimum).
Must be trained inspecialist knowledge of Set and Costume Design(including
current design softwaresuites).
Previous experience withproviding feedback.
Knowledge andinsight into student performanceevaluation.
Experience withresearch and scholarly activity including practice asresearch.
Capable of workingautonomously and as an integral part of adiverse
multinational team whileexhibiting the emotional intelligence necessary forsuch
environments.
Ability to work on a flexible schedule which may include eveningandweekend
work.
Excellent organisational verbal and written communicationskills.
Ability to work withOffice365 Suite (especiallyExcel).
Flexible approach tocurriculum development and andragogy to suitthe
Academy s dynamic needs andcultural considerations and toenhance
collaborative educationdelivery.
Must be willing torelocate to theUAE.
Desirable:
Direct industry experience; connections within the theatre and liveperformance
industry for outreachand collaborative purposes.
Documented success teaching Performance Design: Set and Costume (orsimilar
course content) andrelated courses at a postsecondary institutionand/or
mentoring design studentsand emerging designers.
Documented success in Set and Costume Design (e.g. industryawards). Clear
understanding ofschemes of work and preparing classwork while adheringto
course and markingsystems.
Experience workingwithin a multinational multilingual educationalenvironment.
Ability to adapt toa wide range of age groups.
Experience writing and delivering courses for postgraduateeducation.
Experience witheducational software (e.g. MoodleBlackboard).
Experience withadditional performance design areas (i.e. LightingSound
Projection).
Ability to work with students from varying cultural backgrounds andabilities.
