Business Unit Purpose: Implement and improve Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 45001:2018 standards across the EKFC group. Job Purpose: The safety assistant will continuously monitor and evaluate Health and Safety operational activities, conditions and practices at EKFC premises to minimize accidental losses due to hazardous conditions, under the direction of the Safety Specialist and in compliance with EKFC certification of ISO 45001:2018 standards, and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, safety policies, standards, and procedures and to advise the Safety Specialist accordingly. Key Result Areas Conduct random investigation/audits to identify hazards and risks at all company premises and operational activities, inform department of findings and recommend measures to correct potential hazards and prevent accidents and injuries; conduct follow‑up inspections to ensure that recommended measures are implemented. Monitor assigned departments OHS performance and set realistic objectives for required improvements working with the departments HODs, Management, Supervisors, and staff (e.g., investigate adequacy of ventilation, lighting, noise, exhaust equipment and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance). Check that all portable electrical equipment used by the safety department are calibrated and in working condition. Support the assigned Safety Specialist to help improve safety across EKFC by regularly monitoring the condition of fire emergency equipment and advising accordingly to ensure the integrity and reliability of EKFC fire prevention and protection systems and support external fire management company. Conduct inspections of all emergency exits, periodic fire drills, inspect the first aid box to ensure all necessary items are available as per checklist maintained by department and take necessary action if required. Conduct random inspection in contractor working area and report to safety specialist if any breach of EKFC safety policy is noted. Prepare shift reports with details on any safety issues and regularly advise the Safety Specialist on the status of health and safety at all EKFC facilities and operations. Report requirements necessary to prevent losses due to non‑conformance with health and safety policies, standards, and safe work procedures to the safety specialist for advice on preventative measures. Update safety notice boards on a regular basis and inspect safety posters to ensure that they are in good condition and legible. Assist line managers with incident reporting and accident management. Support the safety specialist in safety campaigns assigned to them, internal cascades, TBT, and help develop internal departmental safety campaigns to improve OHS performance and reduce risks to staff and the business. Brief contractors on EKFC safety policy and procedures and conduct random inspection in their working area to ensure compliance with EKFC safety policy. Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings and monitor the effectiveness of remedial measures adopted to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, EKFC safety policies and procedures, and enforce compliance to ensure continuous improvement of workplace health and safety. Conduct toolbox training for employees on the shop floor on specific safety topics based on accident reports. Apply the Occupational Health and Safety international standard ISO 45001:2018 and execute responsibilities according to the department work procedures while reflecting EKFC Policy. Job Context Preferably have experience within catering, aviation and manufacturing operations. Job role covers 24/7 operations, so flexibility in shift working is required to suit the business requirements. Education Qualification NEBOSH International/General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Must) Work Experience Minimum of 3 years of related experience in a similar role. Knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practice, and extensive experience in policy development, provision of advice, risk assessment and workplace audit within a large organization. Excellent verbal and written communication in English. Strong attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages. Ability to carry out assigned tasks and projects to completion with minimal supervision. Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi‑task and manage time effectively.
