Involvement with preparation of reports, designs, specifications and contract documentsReview designs produced and verify completeness to technical and Atkins standardsLiaising with other engineers/technicians to ensure updates to technical standards are maintained and disseminated to the teamEnsure that design briefs are completed satisfactorilyPromote and incorporate sustainable design wherever possiblePromote and improve inter-discipline working with other disciplines.Monitor emerging legislation and engineering standards relating to highways design and ensure their implementationSupervise the preparation of contract documentsPrepares cost and man-hour estimates, job budgets and schedules.Liaise with clients, Authorities, contractors, suppliers, sub contractors and other design engineersProvide technical input and supervise technical input of others within the highways disciplineOperate to the Quality Assurance system, quality control and document management in line with current policyIdentify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients
Requirements
Degree in Civil EngineeringSimilar experience of minimum 10 years working in a design consultancy, with experience of concept, scheme and detail design across a range of sectorsExperience with design of junctions, roundabouts and grade separated interchangesExperience of working to QA proceduresMembership of a Professional Engineering InstitutionExcellent communication skills in written and spoken English, able to inspire, influence and negotiateIn depth and up to date knowledge of Highways DesignTechnical input into Optioneering, scoping, feasibility studies, outline and detailed design projectsExperienced in design risk assessments and familiar with relevant HSE legislationIntegrate well and see beyond the standard approach to design deliveryKnowledge of BIM, Civil 3d and autocadGood understanding of the regional and international standards related to highways designA good understanding of quality assurance, safety, environmental and sustainabilityAble to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active wayA degree of financial awareness and an ability to develop this skill further as requiredAbility to manage projects, good ability to build up and maintain client and team relationshipsEffective team worker, contributing to the team and wider objectivesExcellent report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clientsBe able to logically analyse problems from first principles to determine solutionsAble to manage own workload and assist more junior members of the teamTechnically capable and willing to assist less experienced members of the team
