We are hiring a Second Officer to work with our marine shipping company. As the Second Officer on board a bulk carrier ship, you will work closely with the Chief Officer and other deck department personnel to ensure the safe navigation and efficient operation of the vessel.Responsibilities
Navigation & Watchkeeping: Stand watch on the bridge, assisting the Officer on Watch (OOW) in maintaining a proper lookout and navigating the vessel safely.Keep all navigational equipment on the vessel in good order and maintain regular servicing.Keep the details of all navigational charts and hydrographic publications for the intended voyage to be fully corrected up to date from the current Notices to Mariners, navigational warnings and other sources.Assist in the planning and execution of navigational passage plans, taking into account weather conditions, traffic separation schemes, and navigational hazards.Assist the Chief Officer in supervising the loading, stowing, and discharging of cargo, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo items.Participate in safety drills and emergency procedures, including fire drills, abandon ship drills, and man overboard drills.Maintain fire-fighting manuals up-to-date.Record safety meeting minutes and submit to the captain or chief officer.Prepare emergency drills report.Conduct routine safety inspections of the vessel and its equipment, reporting any deficiencies to the Chief Officer for corrective action.Provide training and guidance to junior officers and deck ratings to enhance their skills and knowledge.Maintain accurate records of navigational activities, cargo operations, and crew movements in the ship's logbook and other official documents.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
Diploma, Bachelors or Masters in any relevant degreeHolds a valid Officer of the Watch (OOW) license issued by a recognized maritime authority.Previous experience sailing on bulk carrier ships or similar vessels.Proficiency in the use of navigational equipment, communication systems, and computer software relevant to maritime operations.Any certifications related to the industry.
