Our mission is to act as a strategic and reliable ally for our clients, connecting exceptional talent with transformative opportunities and optimising their operations.About the Role:We seek a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 15 years of expertise to play a pivotal role in the Bin Omar Development Project (BOD) and broader petrochemical optimisation efforts in Iraq. This position is based in Basra and offers a unique opportunity to apply your deep electrical engineering knowledge to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of critical electrical systems in large-scale gas processing and petrochemical facilities.Responsibilities:
Electrical System Design: Lead and oversee the design of electrical systems for the gas gathering, compression, processing, and export facilities, including power distribution, substation design, equipment specifications, and instrumentation.Power System Studies: Conduct and review electrical power system studies (short circuit, load flow, motor starting, arc flash, relay coordination) using ETAP or similar software to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the electrical infrastructure.Technical Calculations: Perform and review electrical engineering calculations, including grounding, earthing, battery sizing, transformer sizing, cable sizing, electrical load schedules, and lighting design.Documentation: Develop and review single line diagrams, protection and metering schemes, motor schematics, electrical equipment layouts, cable routing layouts, lighting and grounding layouts, and area classification drawings.Construction Oversight: Provide technical guidance and supervision during the construction and installation of electrical systems, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.Commissioning & Startup: Lead the electrical commissioning activities, including equipment testing, system integration, and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth and safe startup of facilities.Petrochemical Optimization:
Operational Support: Provide expert electrical engineering support to ensure the operation readiness of petrochemical units, including the development of startup philosophies, spare part recommendations, and troubleshooting of electrical issues.Optimization & Upgrades: Identify and implement opportunities to optimize electrical systems, reduce energy consumption, and upgrade outdated equipment to enhance the efficiency and reliability of petrochemical operations.Technology Evaluation: Evaluate new electrical technologies, smart sensing solutions, and automation systems to improve plant performance, safety, and sustainability.Technical Reviews: Conduct design reviews, assessments, and respond to RFIs for electrical equipment, instrumentation, and control systems, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to best practices.Standards Compliance: Participate in standards reviews, ensuring compliance with industry codes (NFPA, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, API, NEC, NACE) and recommending changes to optimize costs and efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities:
Mentorship & Training: Mentor and train junior electrical engineers, sharing your expertise and knowledge to build a strong and capable team.Financial Modeling: Provide technical input to LP and economic modeling, assessing the cost-effectiveness of different electrical solutions and guiding management in selecting optimal configurations for long-term capital projects.Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with project managers, other engineering disciplines, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall project.Research & Development: Stay abreast of the latest developments in electrical engineering technologies, tools, and methodologies, and identify opportunities to apply these advancements to improve operations.
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Minimum 15 years of experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry, with a proven track record in electrical engineering design, construction, and maintenance of large-scale facilities. Expertise in electrical power system design, analysis, and protection. Proficiency in electrical engineering software (ETAP or equivalent).
Strong understanding of international electrical codes and standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic would be advantageous.
Desired Skills:Experience working on large-scale gas processing or petrochemical projects in the Middle East. Familiarity with Iraqi regulations and industry practices. Knowledge of HSE principles and practices in the oil and gas industry.
