Job SummaryThe Civil Engineer is responsible for providing complete design assistance services including preparation of civil site work drawings and water/sewer designs based on existing local utilities and facility load and use. Devises new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices.
Principal Accountabilities(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
Perform design work for new construction, renovations and improvement projects for real property facilities and utility systemsInterpret and adapt traditional methods and approaches in developing design calculations, layouts, drawings, and specifications that support project objectives and standardsProvide civil design services including preparation of civil/site work drawings, structural evaluations and designs, airfield pavements and water/sewer/storm water designs based on existing local utilities and facility load and useFollow and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for design review and project mobilization as necessaryManage and evaluate facility design work by othersComply with health, safety and environmental rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environmentPerform construction management duties including review construction documents and submittals, perform and document daily inspections, and assisting with project punch listsPerform other qualified duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Thorough knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniquesProficient in creating designs simple enough for local construction contractors to complete, and meet the requirements of the PWSExcellent communications, effective leadership and interpersonal skillsCapable of complete design services including structural load determination, planning and sitingProficient using Microsoft Office and Project, etc
Experience & EducationMust be a degreed civil engineer (licensed civil engineer is preferred). Minimum of four (4) years of design experience and be capable of providing civil design services including preparation of civil/site work drawings, structural evaluations and designs, and water/sewer designs based on existing local utilities and facility load and use. Minimum of 2 years of project management experience. Must be proficient in AutoCAD 2012 or later and use AutoCAD to create presentable and accurate facility and infrastructure plans for concept and statement of work requirements for project execution. Familiarity with military programming rules and documentation is desirable. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance; note US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.Physical Requirements/Working EnvironmentLiving and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
