Reporting to: The Associate or Project Director.OverviewThe role of Lead Architect requires the successful applicant to run a portfolio of projects independently, adhere, enforce and maintain agreed standards within the project teams, and provide assistance to the Associates and Managing Partner to improve the overall performance of the practice. The Lead Architect is an active and integral member of the management structure at BSBG.ResponsibilitiesEnquiries and ProposalsAssist senior management team in providing all necessary information required in order to submit fee proposalsReview fee proposals to understand and be fully aware of scope and deliverablesEnquiries and ProposalsProvide full and detailed appraisal of project requirements as issued by clientTake sole ownership of draft design brief and present for comment and approval prior to beginning next stageConcept and SchematicSet up full project programme with Senior ArchitectWork with concept department to realise deliverables on time and within budgetWork with Associate to develop cost/time chart based on project deliverables, required resources and agreed programmeSub-consultant liaison, agreeing deliverables, scope and timescalesPresent concept in PowerPoint formatAttend meetings and file notes and actions of meetingsCoordinate sub-consultants and Senior Architect/ Project Architect to produce stage deliverablesBrief specialist sub-consultants and soil investigatorsTrack client approvalsTake ownership of schematic design development with design teamEnsure local authority complianceEnsure project tracking schedule is current, monitored and submitted on a weekly basisManage any value engineering and make client aware of potential variations to consultancy agreementOrchestrate detailed design package, review progress daily with Senior Architect, and resolve all outstanding issues where client input is requiredDetailed DesignOversee submissions for building permit and Civil DefenceTake responsibility for writing specifications, assisted by the Senior ArchitectTake responsibility for issued information for each stage of the projectSelect a suitable procurement route to suit client’s requirementsPropose tender list, pre-qualify all tenderersWork with QS regarding BOQ and tender documentsAgree procurement strategy and compile a procurement programmeAttend mid-bid interviews/contractor interviewsTechnical compliance review of all tendersReview tender report and propose successful tenderer to clientArrange for contract documentation to be signedLiaise with post-contract staff to agree resourcesArrange and chair pre-commencement meetingPost ContractAct as continuous link to pre-contract staff, client and sub-consultantsAdministrate FIDC contractLeadershipDecide objectives for Senior Architects and Project Architects and trackSet and maintain acceptable efficiency levels and ‘lead’ by exampleAdopt BSBG’s leadership style - based on teamwork, helpfulness and hard workQualityEnsure that all staff are aware of Company’s Quality Policy and Quality ObjectivesEnsure that the Company Quality Management System is effectively implementedEnsure that corrective/preventive actions are implemented effectively as requiredCommunicationChair quarterly cascade meetingChair weekly Senior / Project Architect meeting to formally track project programmesTrack development of staff communicationDelegationProvide opportunities for all staff members to develop through delegating responsibilityProvide adequate support and an appropriate reporting structure to enable successful delegationMotivationHelp staff to achieve their professional ambitionEncourage staff to take responsibilityProvide opportunities for staffGeneralGeneral performance of staff to be constantly reviewedReview standard of drafting, letter writing and report writingEnsure all time sheets are reviewed and signed off at end of each weekAgree staff leave and authorise through AssociatesTrack sick leave/absenteeism through administrator and report to AssociateEnsure timekeeping, punctuality, professionalism and appearance of staff on a daily basisFinanceResponsibility to appraise each team member annually s.
