The Head of Year - Phase Leadership role is central to maintaining high standards across the assigned year group or phase. The position combines pastoral leadership, academic progress monitoring, staff guidance, curriculum quality assurance, assessment review, inclusion support, and contribution to whole‑school improvement. Working within Yasmina British Academy, the Head of Year will help shape a positive student culture, support innovative teaching, lead professional development, and ensure that school policies translate into strong outcomes for learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the assigned year group or phase in line with Yasmina British Academy's values, vision, ethos, and high expectations.
- Support the delivery of school policy to ensure strong student outcomes, effective pastoral care, and consistent academic progress.
- Contribute to key strategic objectives by developing motivated, reflective, innovative, and improvement-focused practitioners.
- Shape a clear direction for the phase with a strong focus on standards, teaching quality, student achievement, and learning culture.
- Monitor and review the quality of curriculum delivery, teaching, assessment, learning environments, inclusive education, and pastoral provision.
- Lead phase‑level evaluation processes and use evidence to identify strengths, priorities, and improvement actions.
- Support the implementation, review, and impact measurement of the School Development Plan and School Evaluation Framework.
- Promote research‑informed teaching practice and help position the school at the forefront of effective learning approaches.
- Ensure new pedagogy, strategies, and improvement methods are shared, understood, and implemented across the phase.
- Inspire and influence staff and students through a culture where leadership, responsibility, and accountability are encouraged.
- Act as an excellent role model for pupils and staff in professional conduct, communication, expectations, and school values.
- Work closely with senior leaders to improve student behaviour, wellbeing, engagement, attendance, and achievement.
- Support teachers in using assessment evidence, progress data, and classroom observations to improve learning outcomes.
- Contribute to continuing professional development by delivering CPD and supporting individuals and teams through coaching and guidance.
- Lead or support effective recruitment within the phase and across the wider primary school where required.
- Take responsibility for an agreed whole‑school area and contribute to the strategic running of the primary school.
- Build strong relationships with parents, staff, students, and school leaders to support trust, communication, and shared success.
- Promote the academy's core values of excellence, respect, passion, collaboration, and creativity in daily school life.
- Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the Senior Leadership Team.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related subject.
- PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification is preferred.
- Previous experience as a Head of Year, Phase Leader, Key Stage Leader, pastoral leader, or school middle leader is preferred.
- Secure understanding of the English Curriculum and British curriculum school standards.
- Proven ability to raise standards, improve student outcomes, and support high-quality teaching and learning.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff, guide teams, and influence positive change.
- Experience in monitoring teaching quality, reviewing assessment practice, and supporting curriculum improvement.
