Role Context
The Urdu Coordinator will provide academic and instructional leadership for Urdu across the school, ensuring that curriculum planning, classroom teaching, assessment, and student support are consistently implemented to a high standard. The position combines classroom expertise with departmental coordination. The successful candidate will guide teachers in strengthening pedagogy, develop coherent schemes of work and assessments, monitor student outcomes, and use performance evidence to identify areas requiring intervention or enrichment. Particular attention will be given to meeting the needs of students with different levels of attainment, including gifted and talented learners and students of determination. The coordinator will also help maintain departmental readiness for internal reviews, school improvement initiatives, and external inspection requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the effective delivery of Urdu across relevant year groups.
- Coordinate the Urdu curriculum in line with British Curriculum school expectations.
- Establish clear academic standards for teaching and learning within the department.
- Develop coherent schemes of work that support progressive language development.
- Review curriculum sequencing to ensure appropriate progression between year groups.
- Prepare and coordinate departmental curriculum maps.
- Support teachers in developing effective lesson plans.
- Develop teaching resources aligned with curriculum objectives.
- Review existing materials and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Ensure appropriate balance across Urdu reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Promote high-quality language instruction throughout the department.
- Develop students ' reading fluency and comprehension.
- Strengthen written expression and accurate language use.
- Promote confident spoken communication in Urdu.
- Encourage wider appreciation of Urdu language, literature, and culture.
- Monitor classroom teaching across the Urdu department.
- Conduct lesson observations and learning walks where required.
- Review student work to evaluate instructional quality.
- Provide teachers with clear and constructive developmental feedback.
