Job Purpose The QC Chemist is responsible for ensuring that aerospace coating products meet defined quality, color, and performance specifications prior to release to filling & dispatch for customers. The role involves conducting laboratory testing and color matching, evaluating product compliance against established standards, recommending batch adjustments when required, and maintaining accurate quality records. The QC Chemist works closely with Production, R&D, and Supply Chain teams to support the manufacture and delivery of products that consistently meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and AkzoNobel quality expectations. In addition, the position supports the effective operation of Quality Control processes by monitoring product quality performance, maintaining laboratory data integrity, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring timely disposition of production batches to meet business and customer needs. Responsibilities Quality Control & Product Release
• Perform testing of intermediates, and finished products in accordance with approved inspection plans, test methods, and aerospace quality requirements.
• Evaluate test results and determine product conformity against customer specifications, approved standards, and quality requirements.
• Conduct color matching and recommend color, viscosity, and other physical property adjustments to production batches based on laboratory results.
• Review and authorize batch disposition, including product release, usage decisions, Certificates of Analysis (CoA), and SAP quality transactions.
• Escalate product deviations beyond established adjustment limits to RD&I and other relevant stakeholders for technical assessment and resolution.
• Support urgent customer requirements through controlled early product release processes in accordance with approved procedures.
• Ensure accurate recording, maintenance, and traceability of all laboratory data, test results, and quality records. Quality Management System
• Maintain and continuously improve the Aerospace Coatings Quality Management System in alignment with global standards, site procedures, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory obligations.
• Ensure compliance with quality policies, standard operating procedures, inspection plans, and work instructions throughout Aerospace blending and quality control operations.
• Control non-conforming materials and products in accordance with established procedures and ensure appropriate containment, disposition, and corrective actions.
• Manage retained sample administration, laboratory documentation, and record retention activities.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, testing instruments, and calibration systems to ensure reliability, accuracy, and compliance with quality standards.
• Support the maintenance of quality certifications and customer approvals, including ISO and other applicable aerospace industry certifications like AS9100D & others. Customer Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Lead customer complaint investigations and coordinate effective root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Monitor, analyze, and report quality performance indicators, driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance Right First Time (RFT), reduce batch adjustments, and improve customer satisfaction.
• Generate quality performance reports and provide inputs to management reviews.
• Collaborate with Production, Supply Chain, Technical Service, Sales, and RD&I teams to resolve quality issues and improve manufacturing performance.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring quality requirements, testing protocols, and approval processes are effectively implemented. Responsibilities (continued) Audits & Compliance
• Plan, coordinate, and participate in internal audits to verify compliance with quality management system requirements and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support external audits, customer audits, certification audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Ensure timely closure of audit findings, corrective actions, and improvement initiatives. Team Leadership
• Lead and coordinate Quality Control resources to ensure efficient laboratory operations and timely support to manufacturing and customer requirements.
• Establish clear objectives, monitor performance, and support the development and training of QC personnel.
• Foster a culture of quality, safety, compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
• Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with AkzoNobel HSE, Quality, Integrity, and Compliance requirements.
• Manage laboratory resources and operating costs effectively while maintaining required service levels and quality standards. Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in Quality Control within the paint & coatings manufacturing industry.
• Strong understanding of quality control testing, color matching, and laboratory practices.
• Visual color perception and ability to pass color test.
• Proficiency in SAP and MS Office applications.
• Good written and spoken communication skills in English.
• Ability to analyze test data and support technical decision-making.
• Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to compliance and documentation.
