- Work Arrangement: On-sitePosition Overviewtalabat is looking for a Data Governance Engineer to establish and strengthen data governance across its growing data ecosystem. The role focuses on ensuring that business data is secure, reliable, discoverable and compliant while making it easier for teams to access and use trusted information. This is a governance ownership role rather than a traditional data pipeline development or platform administration position. You will define data access policies, establish quality standards, evaluate compliance requirements and make independent governance decisions. You will work across Data Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Operations and Product teams to improve data discovery, strengthen access controls and establish consistent business definitions. We are looking for someone who combines practical governance expertise with strong SQL, data modeling and AI capabilities. You should be comfortable using tools such as Claude, semantic layer generators and LLM-based data profilers to automate appropriate governance activities while retaining human judgment for policy decisions, compliance interpretation and escalations. Your goal is to make governance a business enabler: protecting sensitive information without creating unnecessary barriers to responsible data use.

Develop machine-readable semantic layers that help employees and AI agents discover and understand trusted documentation standards for important datasets, business definitions and related critical data assets have accurate, current and accessible the searchability and discoverability of organizational gaps in catalog coverage and coordinate improvements with relevant data owners.
Create a reliable data discovery environment that reduces the time teams spend locating ownership of catalog completeness, documentation quality and practical usability.
Data Security and Access GovernanceDesign and operate Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) frameworks across the organization 's data environment.
Establish access policies that appropriately segregate information by region, compliance zone and other relevant requirements.
Review data access requests and identify recurring access independent governance decisions on standard access requests.
Escalate complex policy conflicts or exceptional access situations when necessary.
Define clear authorization requirements and decision-making procedures.
Monitor access governance practices to identify and address potential security weaknesses.
Strengthen preventive controls designed to eliminate unauthorized data access.
Balance appropriate data protection with efficient access for authorized users.
Data Quality Standards and MonitoringCollaborate with Finance, Operations, Product and other domain leaders to define data quality requirements.
Develop reusable frameworks for evaluating and monitoring dataset quality.
Establish consistent quality scores covering data freshness, consistency and reliability.
Define measurable quality criteria for critical business monitoring approaches that identify quality issues and deviations from established standards.
Work with data owners and technical teams to investigate underlying quality problems.
Coordinate corrective actions that improve the reliability of business critical datasets meet applicable quality requirements.
Promote consistent data quality practices across business domains.
Regulatory Compliance and Governance MaturityAlign organizational governance practices with relevant international frameworks, including DAMA/DMBOK and applicable ISO standards.
Evaluate governance requirements and determine how they should be applied within talabat 's data environment.
Conduct regular governance maturity assessments covering security, quality and discoverability.
Identify weaknesses in existing policies, controls and operating procedures.
Develop practical recommendations for closing governance and compliance gaps.
Maintain documented and verifiable evidence of compliance with applicable regulatory repeatable compliance review procedures.
Monitor changes in relevant standards and evaluate their implications for existing governance practices.
