Purpose of the Role

Ensure all surface preparation and coating activities for the Lamprell scope are executed, inspected, and accepted in full compliance with approved procedures, project specifications, ITP requirements, and applicable international standards, with complete records suitable for final dossier/MDR submission.

Key Responsibilities

· Review and implement the Painting/Coating ITP, project specifications, approved method statements, and procedures.

· Verify surface preparation compliance: cleanliness standard, surface profile, dust checks, salt contamination checks (as specified), and substrate condition.

· Monitor and record environmental conditions: relative humidity, dew point, steel temperature, and hold/stop work decisions as per limits.

· Inspect paint application activities: material verification (batch, shelf life), mixing/thinning control, stripe coats, inter-coat intervals, curing, and repairs.

· Perform and witness inspections/testing: WFT/DFT measurements, holiday/pinhole checks (if applicable), adhesion testing (if specified), and coating defect assessment.

· Coordinate client/third-party inspections and obtain WIR/hold point releases in line with the approved ITP.

· Raise, manage, and close NCRs and punch items related to coating; support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.

· Ensure inspection instruments are available, calibrated, and used correctly (DFT gauge, dew point meter, profile gauge, Bresle kits, dust test kit, etc.).

· Issue and maintain coating inspection records: daily reports, WIRs, calibration logs, paint logs, test reports, and as-built traceability.

· Support final documentation: compile coating dossier/MDR with complete, accurate, and auditable records.

Standards / Technical Knowledge (Typical)

· ISO 8501 / ISO 8502 / ISO 8503 – surface preparation and assessment (as applicable).

· SSPC / NACE surface preparation and coating inspection standards (as referenced in project specification).

· ISO 12944 and/or project-specific coating systems for offshore structures (as applicable).

· Paint manufacturers' Product Data Sheets (PDS) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Key Interfaces

· QA/QC Manager / QC Lead, Production / Painting Superintendent, Planning, Stores, and HSE.

· Lamprell / Client QA/QC representatives and Third-Party Inspector (TPI).

· Paint manufacturer / technical representatives (as required).

Minimum Qualifications & Certification

· Valid NACE/AMPP CIP Level 3 certification (mandatory) or an equivalent Level 3 coating certification acceptable to client.

· Technical diploma/engineering qualification preferred.

· Strong understanding of offshore structural steel coating systems (primers, epoxies, polyurethane topcoats; fireproofing if applicable to scope).

Experience Requirements

· 8–12+ years of coating inspection experience in oil & gas / offshore fabrication yards or comparable heavy industrial environments.

· Proven track record managing client/TPI interfaces, ITP hold points, WIR approvals, and close-out dossiers.

· Hands-on competence in identifying coating defects, controlling rework, and improving first-pass acceptance.

Required Skills

· Strong inspection judgment under schedule pressure without compromising compliance.

· High discipline in reporting, traceability, and document control (dossier-ready records).

· Clear communication and ability to work with painters, supervisors, and client inspectors.

· Proficient in basic MS Office (Excel/Word) for reporting and logs.

Inspection Instruments (Must)

· DFT gauge (e.g., Elcometer / PosiTector or equivalent), wet film gauges.

· Dew point meter / thermo-hygrometer.

· Surface profile gauge / replica tape where applicable.

· Bresle kit for salt contamination checks and dust test kit/tape (as per specification).

HSE and Work Conditions

· Work in yard/site environments including at height, confined spaces, and hot climates as applicable.

· Strict adherence to HSE rules, permits, and safe work practices; stop-work authority for out-of-spec conditions.

Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· First-pass acceptance rate for coated items.

· Reduction in coating-related NCRs and rework hours.

· Timely closure of WIRs/hold points and punch items.

· Dossier/MDR completeness with zero missing inspection records.

Note: Project-specific requirements in the Lamprell coating specification and ITP shall take precedence where they differ from typical standards.
