Role Overview
The Strategic Finance Analyst for Inventory Management is a critical role that bridges financial strategy and operational efficiency. This role is responsible for analyzing inventory health, optimizing working capital, and providing financial forecasts that drive strategic purchasing and distribution decisions across all sales channels.
The ideal candidate will use financial data to influence inventory policy, minimize risk (obsolescence/stockouts), and directly impact the company's profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Analysis & Strategy
- Inventory Forecasting: Develop and maintain detailed inventory forecasts (in dollars and units) aligned with sales forecasts, production schedules, and working capital targets.
- Working Capital Optimization: Drive initiatives to improve inventory turnover, reduce Days Inventory
Outstanding (DIO), and achieve optimal stock levels without compromising service levels.
- Valuation and Risk: Lead the quarterly review of inventory valuation, including the calculation of Provisions for Obsolete and Slow-Moving Inventory (E&O), and present findings to senior management.
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) Analysis: Analyze and report on variances in COGS, manufacturing costs, freight,and warehousing expenses to identify cost savings opportunities.
Reporting & Business Partnering
- Performance Reporting: Prepare weekly/monthly financial reports, dashboards, and deep-dive analysis on key inventory metrics (e.g., fill rates, lead times, safety stock, stock-to-sales ratios).
- Strategic Recommendations: Partner closely with Supply Chain, Operations, and Sales teams to translateinventory data into actionable financial recommendations.
- Budgeting & Planning: Support the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes by providing accurate inventory-related inputs and challenging operational assumptions.
Process Improvement
- Process Efficiency: Identify and implement improvements in current inventory tracking, costing, and reporting processes to enhance accuracy and speed.
- System Utilization: Utilize and optimize financial planning tools (ERP/planning systems) to enhance inventory visibility and reporting capabilities.
Qualifications and SkillsRequired
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in a Finance, FP&A, or Supply Chain Finance role, with direct exposure to
- inventory valuation and analysis.
Technical Skills:
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, financial modeling).
- Strong experience with ERP systems (Zoho)
- Analytical Ability: Proven ability to synthesize large datasets, identify trends, and communicate complex
- financial concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- PreferredCPA, CFA, or professional certification is a plus.
- Experience in a multi-channel retail, e-commerce, or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of inventory accounting principles (FIFO, LIFO, Weighted Average Cost).
