AutoCAD Draftsman & 3D Visualisation Specialist – Metal Industry

Position Summary:

The AutoCAD Draftsman & 3D Visualisation Specialist is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, fabrication models, and high-quality 3D visualizations for metal structures, components, and assemblies. This role supports engineering, production, and sales teams by transforming concepts and specifications into accurate plans and renderings suitable for fabrication and client approvals.

Key Responsibilities:Technical Drafting

• Produce detailed 2D technical drawings using AutoCAD for metal components, assemblies, and fabrication layouts.
• Prepare workshop/fabrication drawings with accurate dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and welding details.
• Generate assembly and exploded-view drawings for production and installation teams.
• Ensure drawings comply with industry standards, engineering requirements, and company specifications.

3D Modeling & Visualization

• Create realistic 3D models of metal structures, products, or architectural elements using AutoCAD, 3ds Max, SolidWorks, or similar software.
• Develop photorealistic renderings and visual presentations for client proposals and internal reviews.
• Prepare animation walkthroughs or exploded sequences when needed.

Coordination & Documentation

• Review and interpret engineering sketches, project specifications, and customer requirements.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and fabricators to ensure accurate translation of designs.
• Revise drawings based on feedback and production adjustments.
• Maintain organized drawing libraries, revision histories, and project documentation.

Quality & Process Improvement

• Identify design issues and propose practical solutions related to fabrication, assembly, and installation.
• Ensure all drawings reflect manufacturable, cost-efficient, and safe designs.
• Support continuous improvement in design and visualization workflows.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Industrial Design, or related field.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & 3D; experience with 3ds Max, SolidWorks, Inventor, or Revit is an advantage.
• Experience in metal fabrication, including sheet metal, steel structures, frames, brackets, or architectural metalwork.
• Excellent understanding of materials, welding symbols, tolerances, and fabrication processes.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong visualization and rendering skills, including lighting, materials, and textures.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and design consistency.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience (Optional):

• Experience creating bill of materials (BOM) and CNC-ready files.
• Knowledge of laser cutting, bending, machining, and welding processes.
• Familiarity with design standards (ISO, ASTM, ASME).
• Experience in project documentation and drawing management systems.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements:

• Office and workshop environment exposure (occasionally visiting fabrication floor for measurements/verification).
• Ability to handle occasional onsite measurements with tools.
