The Off-Grid Solar Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, engineering, and technical evaluation of standalone/off-grid solar PV systems. This role involves sizing, simulation, and optimization of solar PV, battery storage, charge controllers, and backup systems to deliver reliable, efficient, and cost-effective renewable energy solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed site assessments and load analysis to determine client energy requirements.
  • Design and optimize off-grid solar PV systems including solar panels, inverters, batteries (Li-ion/Lead Acid), charge controllers, and backup generators.
  • Prepare technical drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and layouts using AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar software.
  • Perform energy yield simulations and financial analysis for proposed systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with local regulations, international standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, UL), and best practices for safety and efficiency.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), technical specifications, and tender documents.
  • Support procurement by evaluating technical submittals and vendor specifications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, installation teams, and subcontractors to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Provide technical support during commissioning and troubleshooting of installed systems.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies in solar PV, batteries, hybrid inverters, and energy storage solutions.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field
  • 3–7 years of experience in solar PV design, with at least 2 years in
    off-grid or hybrid solar systems
    .
  • Hands-on knowledge of energy storage systems (Li-ion, LFP, VRLA, etc.).

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in design and simulation tools (PVsyst, Helioscope, HOMER, AutoCAD, SketchUp).
  • Strong understanding of solar PV components: PV modules, inverters, batteries, charge controllers, and genset integration.
  • Knowledge of grounding, earthing, surge protection, and lightning protection systems.
  • Familiarity with standards: IEC, IEEE, NEC, UL, and local authority regulations.
