Role Overview:

The Test Engineer will be responsible for verification, validation, and qualification of a networking system, including hardware, firmware, embedded Linux, networking functions, and security features. The role is critical for ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance with customer and defence standards throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Test Planning & Documentation


• Develop test plans, test procedures, and test cases based on system, hardware, and software requirements


• Maintain traceability matrices (Requirements Test Cases Results) for audits


• Support customer with structured test evidence


• Prepare test reports, logs, and non-conformance reports (NCRs)

2. System & Functional Testing


• Perform functional testing of the PnF box, including: o Networking features (routing, switching, QoS, VLANs, OSPF) o Management interfaces (CLI, gRPC) o Configuration workflows and system startup/shutdown sequences


• Validate interaction with different devices (encryptora, host systems)

3. Networking & Performance Testing


• Execute network performance tests (throughput, latency, packet loss, jitter)


• Use traffic generators/analyzers such as Spirent, Wireshark.


• Validate behavior under stress, overload, and fault conditions


• Verify QoS, prioritization, and traffic shaping policies

4. Automation & Regression Testing


• Design and maintain automated regression tests


• Develop test scripts using Python, Bash, or similar tools


• Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines where applicable


• Ensure regression coverage for every software and firmware release

5. Defect Management & Collaboration


• Log, track, and verify defects using issue-tracking tools


• Work closely with: o Embedded software engineers o Networking engineers o hardware teams


• Participate in design and test reviews to improve testability

Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills:


• Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing basics)


• Basic knowledge of Linux / Embedded Linux (OpenWRT, Ubuntu Embedded)


• Familiarity with test methodologies (unit, integration, system, regression)


• Ability to read hardware schematics and interface specifications


• Experience or exposure to traffic generators (Spirent preferred) Programming & Tools


• Scripting: Python, Bash


• Test tools: Wireshark, iperf, ping, tcpdump


• Version control: Git


• Issue tracking: Jira or similar
