Role Description
The Senior Video Engineer is responsible for the pre-production technical design, onsite leadership, operation, and delivery of complex live event projects across the Middle East. Working on projects of varying scale and complexity, the role plays a critical part in show execution, ensuring systems are designed, installed, operated, and delivered safely, reliably, and to the highest standards, while representing the company professionally to clients and production teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the onsite delivery and operation of live event projects, independently managing high-profile and complex shows and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution in a live environment.
- Take full ownership of assigned systems, technical areas, or entire projects during rehearsals and live delivery, maintaining control of performance, reliability, and standards.
- Complete pre-production technical design, including system design, technical scope, equipment specification, and production of technical drawings and documentation.
- Review and interpret project specifications and technical briefs, proactively identifying risks, limitations, and improvement opportunities prior to and during delivery.
- Ensure all systems and equipment are correctly specified, configured, operational, and fit for purpose throughout rehearsals and live events, including implementation of software, firmware, and system configuration updates.
- Apply advanced fault-finding and troubleshooting skills to maintain continuous show delivery.
- Act as the onsite technical lead where required, supervising and coordinating freelance engineers and technicians, and providing technical input and feasibility guidance to Project Managers and Technical HODs.
- Ensure defective or damaged equipment is reported promptly and that equipment is correctly packed down and prepared for transport in line with company procedures.
- Perform project related prep at the warehouse as required.
- Maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety, professionalism, and calm, solutions-focused behaviour under live show pressure.
- Keep up to date with evolving technologies, equipment, and industry best practice, supporting continuous technical improvement.
- Work as directed by Senior Management both onsite and offsite, supporting wider project, operational, and departmental objectives.
Person Specifications
- Minimum 5–7 years' experience in a senior engineering role within the live events industry, with proven specialisation across multiple key technical areas within the Lighting discipline.
- Advanced knowledge of complex video systems including signal distribution.
- ST2110 and advanced networking knowledge is a strong advantage.
- Advanced knowledge of camera and PPU systems.
- Advanced knowledge of media servers and CODECs.
- Advanced knowedge of complex LED systems and processing including Novastar, Brompton, Helios.
- Advanced understanding Projection Mapping and projection study software including Mapping Matter.
- Extensive experience designing, configuring, commissioning, and operating complex technical systems in live show environments.
- Strong understanding of networking, signal flow, system architecture, and control workflows relevant to live event delivery.
- Proven ability to interpret, create, and work from schematics, system drawings, and pre-production documentation including Vectorworks knowledge.
- Demonstrated advanced fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills under live show conditions.
- Advanced level of computer literacy including Office 365 applications.
- Proven experience leading onsite teams, including supervising and mentoring engineers and freelancers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging clients and production teams.
- Structured, methodical working practices with a high level of attention to detail and quality.
- Fluent in English, written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions under pressure, and take full ownership of technical delivery.
- Flexible to work hours based on live event requirements and willing to work outside the UAE within the GCC and beyond.
