Job Overview
The
Mechanical Field Service Technician
will be responsible for on-site mechanical inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation, and commissioning of rotating equipment. The role requires strong hands-on expertise, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to respond to planned maintenance as well as emergency breakdowns at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site mechanical inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of motors, generators, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and auxiliary equipment.
- Carry out mechanical dismantling, overhaul, reassembly, and replacement of bearings, seals, gaskets, and worn components.
- Measure and record critical parameters such as air gaps, bearing tolerances, runout, concentricity, and shaft conditions.
- Conduct shaft and coupling alignment using laser and dial gauge methods; support field balancing activities when required.
- Install and commission rotating equipment, including base checks, leveling, soft-foot inspection, and torque verification.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns, identify root causes of mechanical failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities, including lubrication and mechanical health checks.
- Prepare clear and detailed service reports with findings, measurements, photos, and recommendations.
- Follow all HSE requirements, site rules, and safe rigging, lifting, and handling practices.
Skills & Technical Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with rotating equipment mechanical systems.
- Proficient in bearing fitting and removal using hydraulic and thermal methods.
- Skilled in alignment techniques, mechanical measurements, and equipment handling.
- Good understanding of lubrication practices, failure modes, and mechanical drawings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma / ITI in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
. - 3–7 years of relevant experience in rotating equipment field services
. - Exposure to Oil & Gas, utilities, or marine sectors is preferred.
- Alignment, rigging, or mechanical maintenance certifications are an advantage.
