Safety Assistant

**Business unit Purpose**:
Implement and improve Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 45001:2018 standards across the EKFC group
**Job Purpose**:
The safety assistant will continuously monitor and evaluate Health and Safety operational activities conditions and practices at EKFC premises to minimize accidental losses due to hazardous conditions, under the direction of the Safety Specialist and in compliance of EKFC certification of ISO45001:2018 standards and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, safety policies, standards, and procedures and to advise the Safety Specialist accordingly.
**Key Result Areas**:
Conduct random inspection/audit to identify hazard and risks at all company premises and operational activities, inform department of findings and recommends measure to correct potential hazards and prevent accident and injury; conducts follow up inspections to ensure that recommended measures are been implemented.
- Monitor assigned departments OHS performance and set realistic objectives for any improvements required working with the departments HOD*s, Management, Supervisors, and staff i.e., Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, lightning, noise, exhaust equipment and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
- Check all portable electrical equipment used by the safety department are calibrated and in working condition.
- Support assigned Safety Specialist to help improve safety across EKFC by regularly monitoring the condition of fire emergency equipment and advise accordingly to ensure as such the integrity and reliability of EKFC fire prevention and protection systems and support external fire Management Company.
- Conduct inspections of all emergency exits, periodic fire drills, inspect the first aid box to ensure all necessary items are available as per checklist maintained by department and take necessary action if required.
- Conduct random inspection in the contractor working area and report to safety specialist if noted any breach of EKFC safety policy.
- Preparing shift reports with details on any safety issues and regularly advise the Safety Specialist of the status of health and safety at all EKFC facilities and operations.
- The requirements necessary to prevent losses due to non-conformances with health and safety policies, standards, and safe work procedures must be reported to the safety specialist for their advice on preventative measures to be taken.
- Update safety notice boards on a regular basis and conduct the inspection of safety posters to ensure that they are in good state and legible.
- Assist line managers with incident reporting and accident management.
- Support the safety specialist in Safety campaigns assigned to them, internal cascades, TBT, as well as helping in the developing of internal departmental safety campaigns to help improve OHS performance and reduce risks to staff and the business.
- Briefing contractors on EKFC safety policy and procedures and conduct random inspection in their working area to ensure that they are following the EKFC safety policy.
- Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings and monitor the effectiveness of remedial measures adopted to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, EKFC safety policies and procedures and where necessary enforce compliance to ensure continuous improvement of workplace health and safety in the absence of safety specialist.
- Conducts toolbox training for the employee on the shop floor on specific topics related to safety and based on the accident reports.

**Job Context**:
Preferably have experience within a catering, aviation and manufacturing operations. Job role covers 24/7 operations so flexibility in shift working is required to suit the business requirements.
**Knowledge, Skills & Minimum Experience**:
**Education Qualification**:
NEBOSH International/General certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Must)
Lead Auditor 45001:2018 (preferred)
**Work Experience**:

- Minimum of 3 years of related experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practice, along with extensive experience of policy development, provision of advice, risk assessment and workplace audit within a large organization.

**Skills**:

- Comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practice, along with extensive experience of policy development, provision of advice, risk assessment and effective implantation
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks and projects to completion with mínimal supervision
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
